45/70 trapper 4 Joined: Dec 2006 Georgia	Read for the land sign very carefully. You will find some land travel. I may be very faint, but will catch otter with snares. If you are not experienced with snares Make sure your snare+ extension cable are long enough to allow the otter to reach the pond and swim. This will calm him down a heap, and you can deal with him with a catch pole. Later, 45/70, RKBA!

four coil trapper F Joined: Jan 2007 Wisconsin	I've caught otter in a marina using a white 5 gallon pail and a 220. Drill some small holes in the bottom of the pail. Put some notches in the top of the pail to hold your 220. I run an 1/8" cable through the side of the bucket and then connect it to the trap, this will allow you to pull the trap, bucket, and hopefully the otter in. Place a good sized rock in the bottom of the pail. Then for bait I use a large silvery fish. Wire it to the rock and to the bottom of the pail. Guard the pail with your 220. I set the pail in the water and let it flood through the holes in the bottom. When the pail starts to balance I push it out into deeper water. Hopefully it sinks to the bottom sitting upright, and without setting of the trap. Hopefully this will give you a chance to get your problem otter. Shawn

zachary scott trapper Z Joined: Jul 2008 Kentucky	the simplest way would be a bucket set but u couldn't stay away from non targets like that. It would be hard to set for the otter and avoid catching coons or rats or mink or whatever may b around

I have a an otters-at-the-marina problem too! My big worry was trap theft with cages, as anyone can walk out onto this un-guarded, un-gated dock. Shawn Don't catch a lot of them this way but it does work. I use my plastic coon buckets, for bait I use a brick soaked in fish oil & partly wrapped in alum foil.
