This is what I hate to see...and yet, every fall and winter I get a bunch just like it. Big boar 'coon in a coyote snare caught right around the middle and beatin' up on a rusty old fenceline. ....and man they can can wreck some fence too, don't think they can't! Nice big prime boar though!

My not so bright set of the season last year was the minnow bucket set. It is very effective but it will more than likely cost you a minnow bucket. Had a coon raiding my bucket on and off all that summer when I left it overnight in the river trying to keep my bait alive. I had to get that coon come season. Staked it in shallow water with the flap open and a 1 1/2 coil in the bottom. Luckily I used my oldest bucket. Not much left of it when that big old boar coon got done with it. But he's not a problem any more.
More seriously my eyes were opened by the number of coon, almost all very lg boar coon, I caught from Fisher/Cat boxes that I used for my first season last year. All from deep in mature woods, far from water or corn. 19 coon from 10 boxes during the first week of Dec. Was catching them in 6" of snow before really cold, deep snow put them down for the winter. Since they were so actively going after meat bait I suspect that they were taking advantage of the late season protein available from deer gut piles left by deer hunters. It is certainly something that I am going to explore more, especially as that time of year coon numbers seem to dwindle around water and corn(now picked).
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.
