I have some lures left over from last year that have lost their "skunkiness" over the summer. To compensate for this I have collected a couple fresh road kill skunks. How much fresh skunk essence does a guy need to add per oz to restore skunky call power without making it overpowering? And also, do you use the mustard differently than the rest of the skunk's special sauce?

The skunkiness will dissapate from a lure over time. That's normal. You may want to start with one drop per bottle, shake or stir, let set five days and smell it. See how it is to your nose. If you think it needs more, add one more drop. Be carefull, its easy to over do it when adding skunk to one ounce or four ounce bottles of lure.

The mustard seems to me to have a bit more durability than the liquid, but many feel differently.

I agree with Paul, be careful when adding skunk musk unless you want to overpower all of the other good ingredients normally found in most lures. Asa

Pauls right, use 1 drop per oz. and see what that does for you after a couple of days. If you have a 4 oz. bottle I'd still use 1 drop and see what that does for you. When working with pure quill it's hard to get a good idea of what your lure will smell like. Because that's all your gonna smell for awhile. Even when testing the smell of a lure I have to wait for awhile before I take another smell.

I knew you was a Whizbang Boss! lol Isn't that what you hear when a bullet flys past your head? You hear the Whiz and then the bang?

The bad thing about adding skunk to lures and than smelling them to see if you have enough in them is that if you smell skunk to much you will become somewhat immunne to it.
best thing you can do is add a drop mix let it sit and than have someone else smell it.
I stick with the amounts in my recipes, if I added till my nose said it was right, most would be way over skunked....
By the way I agree with Paul, I like the Mustard.....B.....
