LT GREY is correct your biggest coons will usually come away from the water.

Nice pictures...Just remember it is not the name on the trap that catches coon. It is where the owner places the trap. I currently do not have nor intend to buy any dp trap that costs over $20 dollars.

I went out today at some of my locations and started some bait station stuff. I guess that's one advantage of working at a vet hospital, the expired/opened food that can't be returned I get to have. I used about 60 lbs of kibble dog food just dumped in piles at several locations. Once next weekend comes, I will start digging some holes and adding soft canned food and lure to get them hitting the sets. This is just to get their attention and get them hanging around the area a little more closely.

There will obviously be some eaten by possum, squirrels, and birds, but I've always been good at sharing!

It is indeed very nice. Actually, a gal who works with me has a bunch of cattle, and one of her butcher freezers went out, so I got almost 20 lbs of hamburg as well as a bunch of steaks to chunk for predator bait. So I should be all ready to go.

Haha yeah. The head vet there is a waterfowling fool as well as dove and rabbits.

He tried to help our ploy in my county of NC to get a fox trapping season, but alas, the obscene signs and slanderous comments by antis had more sway at the meeting.

A vet supporting trapping? Huh, t is only the most effective way to manage populations of disease vector species! Strange how logic and reason work!

I know that a lot of you guys use sponges with lure on them in your lil grizz but do you put them behind the trigger or poke them on the trigger? Also does anybody have any problems with lure freezing?

unless you make your own lure it usually has anti-freeze in it

I think LT is commenting on the fact of having actual anti-freeze in your lures instead of glycerine which acts as an anti-freeze in most lures.

I have heard some lure makers say that once a coon gets the taste of a preservative they will not come back to the set. Is this true? I'm new to trapping, but love all of the posts, I am learning alot by just following along. Keep up the good info and pictures of sets.

Heres my tips:

Have a route set b4 season (I have 4) and know what kind and where each trap goes.

I use pogo stakes and have one attached to every trap b4 season.

All my conis and dp are set and have a marshmellow in them the night b4.

I dig my pockets w/ a bulb planter. Quicker than a shovel and works in most types of mud.

Have plenty of bait. Dont skimp on lure or bait.

If you cant drive to it or pull a boat up to it save it for when your run out of spots or have nothing better to do. Time is money$$$

If your serious about big numbers I would buy 200 griz and get it over with. You can ran ALL these in one day and have time to spare. You wont do that w/ a foot hold by yourself and you may never get wet doing it! The initial start up is alot but if your gonna do it for several seasons you will recoup your money w/ time saved and fur caught.

Before we start let me apologize for the president.
