I am not sure, I use 1.5's and basically put the strong jaw at the lip of the hole, so the pan is close to 4 inches away? I do still do a slight offset of the trap from the hole. About 3 fingers width to the right.

if your loose jaw is not bedded real solid underneath they may be feeling it tip and digging it out.You could also try a guide right in front of your loose jaw so the step will be on the pan guide them tight in.You could also put in a flat blind set if you know which way they are coming from.They have already figured your set out so they are smart. Move set a few feet reset bait with different lure.Rebait old hole no trap sometimes they will work the old hole and find new whole and walk right in because they expected the trap to snap at the dummy hole.Educated coons can be touchy but you can usually get them that is the part of trapping that makes it fun.

was the trap set close to the den tree??

ive found that the grizz dont have to be set right by the den site but can be on the trail their using between the den sites during the coon rut. what ever is easier and more convenient to the trapper.

Does anyone use egg traps? Of the dog proof traps whats the best, egg, coon cuff, grizz and why?

I never thought of using a beer can as an attractor. Would Old Milwaukee Light work? I have a lot of those. LOL

what you guys sake your traps with? any of you stake traps with wood stakes? if so how you attach chains to wooden stake? thanks

Timber and soy beans on one side of the road, corn on the other. Any standing corn late in the year. Little creeks, big creeks, little rivers, big rivers, den trees and barns (old houses) trap them in that order and you will always be on the coon.

I usually hook tree limbs up as drags, but sometimes will stake with rebar.
