matt jones gives a recipe for a coon bait that has a cherry base to it. It's on one of his videos. Maybe someone has the recipe stored on there PC.

Hmmm. Didn't know that. Thanks!

i have some for 'rats. i used it this year. did catch one on a float with a real cherry with that bait dribbled on it. don't know which one worked, but i got him, lol. it also says it's good for coons, but i don't target them so i didn't try it for coons.

im not a lure maker .... but seems like a lil cherry extract mixed with beaver castor would be deadly on the coon and rats ... just not sure how well the two would blend

Here's why I ask....

I heard Marshiano cherries were good for rats....so I went to get some....come to find out, they're kinda pricy. I ended up with a few can of cherry pie filling instead.

I put some on some floating logs way in the middle of a beaver pond, and laced it with vanilla extract...each bait pile guarded with two 1.5 coils...

Next day, every set had produced....I do not remember the exact specifics, but both coon and rats. The thing that REALLY gets me....I took a few coon that had to swim 30+ yards to get to the logs!

I've tried in in a few sets since, and it's workled every time.

Cherry will make you the real NUTRIA SLAYER, lol. Just letting you know ahead of time, i found them to be extremely attracted to it here some years ago.

I have found cherry extracts to have only an average attraction for coon but can be deadly in certain Beaver and rat formulas when used in the right proportion with certain ingredients.

Matt's video shows that "post in the water" set you were talking about making Daniel. He used catfish scraps(ground up), and added some cherry stuff and other ingrediates. I had borrowed the video from someone.

cool

Daniel, Marichino cherries are fairly cheap. You can buy them for about a buck for a 10oz jar at stores like ALDI or SAVE-A-LOT.

I just made up some new lures and one of them is a cherry based lure that is mixed with a few other choice ingredients. It is a burning sweet lure and the best part of all is that it is 100% freeze proof. I can't wait for the season to come around again to see how well it works on the coon and rats.

I've been using a mix of castor and cherry extract for years. I find that beavers are actually quick to respond. Rats and coons too. But usually I am doing everything but trying to target coons. LOL

Mix the two with petroleum jelly and a little glycerine. Good consistency and holds up well.

I found spearmint tooth paste works well on rats, the white color helps also and easy to carry. Goodluck
