I'm sure a lot of you on here have had your fair share of nicks/cuts/etc on yourself while skinning the days catch. My question is how concerned do you get when this happens? Call yourself an idiot and keep going?, "Keep an eye on it"?, or Rush to the ER?.....

Today I accidently gave myself a little poke with the knife while skinning a grey that I got yesterday. Wasn't anything deep, just enough to know that I did it. Got a tetnus shot this spring, so I'm ok there. Just curious as to how others handled things.

I wash the cut, put a bandaid on it (to keep the animals blood out of the cut as much as possible) and go back to skinnin

A couple of years ago some of the experts here laughed at me when I said I keep a bottle of Listerine on my bench and immediately splash it on any cut (stings like getting spanked with a willow switch) and then go in the house and clean it good and then use peroxide.

Soap, water, new gloves. I was skinning a coon last year and i made the cut threw the ear and got sprayed in the eye with blood and other matter from the head. My wife freaked out and made me go to the ER to get checked for rabies. They laughed at me and sent me on my way, and just told me to wash my hands as much as possible.

Got myself pretty bad on a scalpel while skinning an 'older' yote, stopped the bleeding and didn't even go for stitches!

I'll second what White17 said. Keep a small bottle of bleach in the shed, it will kill anything.

Been stuck more times than I can count from mostly doing paw work. Sometimes when around the nails the knife grabs the nail instead of just between the knuckle and nail.

When this happens you should not pull harder LOL, had one break free one season and went right into my fore arm about an inch or so deep.
Got the bleeding stopped long enough to get into the house to watch the wivery and kids go freaking nuts, LOL, finally got it taped shut and went to bed. Woke up in the morning with my whole arm and shoulder and half my back purple, bled all night long between the fat layers. Wivery about called the EMT's

Ended up at the local clinic, where they used a new training needle about a foot long to shoot me full of anti-biotics and then furnished me with some type of anti-viral pill the size of a cucumber. Then gave me a tetanus booster.
Never did stitch the cut up, LOL

I never worry about cuts anymore, but do worry about organic material and liquids being sprayed into my eyes or mouth, which is another thread when your ready!!!
