Can you tell me how you take care of fleas on your catch?

if theyre not too bad we dont bother but occaisionally we get a beaver thats infested when we do we spray it with flea spray, same as you would a dog.

the kind we use is in a blue bottle from the vet.
it costs bout 12 bucks but it really does the job.

i can go out to the shed and get the name of it if ya want.

place your catch in a large garbage bag and spray with any flea spray or raid and seal the bag for a couple hours.

cathryn, those red bugs on a beaver are not fleas, they are a mite that eat the dead skin off the beaver, annoying yes but will not bite.

Garbage bag and RAID, seal bag with twist tie and let set for an hour or two.
Most times when on the line doing this, by the time I get to the skinning shed they are dead.
You can put more than one in a bag depending on the size of bag.
Like to do it with all critters,as I don't care for the heebeegeebbees. LOL

Cathryn...those are beaver beatles. They kind of look like fleas at first...

but if you look real close...might need a magnifying glass... you can see they are a beetle not a flea. This is a closeup of one on a paper towel edge.

No danger, biting etc but you have to believe or they'll make you itch...LOL. They only eat beaver dandruff...and won't harm any of your other furs.

Fleas...the garbage bag and raid or else I give them a dip in a tub of malathion water mix I keep on hand during trappig season.

"theyll make ya itch" is an understatement LOL. i know.

its was more like a skin crawlin kinda sensation. one i hope never to experience again. grin

side note,i just saw where theyre taking the products containing 7 dust(sevin) off the market.thats includes almost all the flea colars and most of the powders.
saw it yesterday onm tb e news.

we always just powdered the dogs and cats with sevin dust, same as we dusted the garden with.
now they say its toxic to animals.

none of ours never died though after being treated for fleas that way.

Cathryn...Frontline is awesome stuff on your dogs...the actual drug is called fipronil (spelling?) It's a bit spendy...but it's what I use on my dogs and they are flea and tick free. I only use it on them for about 4 months of the year at most.

I just bought some Frontline for my cat. One thing to remember is that it does not repel fleas, and actually takes several hours for one to die after getting on the treated pet.

But back to the original post, I haven't had any critters that were eat up enough to need the bag treatment. Lucky I guess. They seem to have increased in numbers around the yard this year, so I'm curious to see how their numbers are in the wild population.
