What kind of staple gun is best for stretching beaver? I'm sick of using nails and a staple gun seems like an easy alternative.

None ,it would be harder to me to use a staple gun , how are you going to stretch it properly, then pull out all them staples, nails is the best way or get you some hoops to put them on.

I have used both nails and staples ... for me staples wins hands down. I have an ACE electric stapler, it has an adjustment on the top for the amount force to drive the staples. Stretching ... no problem ... use a nail to pull, small needlenose pliers, a kitchen fork, many many ways. Pulling staples ... most pliers work fine, I like needlenose for this. | | |

If I'm only doing one beaver I'll nail them, however I've done enough to figure out that nailing is a tough way to do a lot of beaver in a short amount of time.
Once you have done a few rugs there should not be any re-arranging.

I tried a hand stapler for a while, and figured out the setting to just have them go half way in, this is great when you need to remove them, made me a special tool for that as well with a rug staple tool. Still made my hands sore after five or so rugs.

However now that I am older and have had the chance to buy a compressor I invested in a auto stapler, oh man thats the way to go, get long staples and adjust the pressure and it's stack them up Joe, LOL, removing the staples is not harder or different than the nails really, once you have the setting right.

I can use my nails or pins over and over , you can have a lot of money in your staples , and a pain to get out of the fur also.

Electric stapler set light to leave the staple sticking up. Catfish skinning plyers to stretch. Same plyers to pull staples. Hands down better than nails. No pleating either...perfect edges.

One can negatively break any thing down if they want to.

I agree Grit. I have boarded 1000's of beaver over the last 25 years, I have never used staples always nails, I AM going to try it one of these days, stubborn I guess, prolly will think it's the cats meow and will never pound another nail. Next batch I will staple.

One of the canadian outfits used to do demos at the conventions where they used a staple gun. It seemed to work really good, but I have talked to some that tried them and couldn't get them to work well at all. Staples always went in too far or not far enough.

That's all we use at the shed. I help out my good friend who is an agent for nafa and a custom fur handler. I have never seen a beaver done with nails or tacks in that shop. Like someone else said, a stapler set on a light setting, with something wedged in the safety so you don't have to press it all the way down. As for pulling them, we use a side cutters. You can board one and pull all the staples in less time than it takes to nail one on. We wear out at least 2 every season. They start to go full auto when they are getting worn out. We also use staples for boarding coon. I was taught by a guy that does several thousand beaver for nafa every year and I am sure that if there was a faster, easier way, he would be doing it.
If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough
