The ones guys send me I dry for 3 to 5 days on average sometimes a little longer. Then I freeze until needed. Hope this helps. Tom

For beaver lure formulations I freeze them fresh in ziploc bags with the air sucked out. For canine and cat lures I dry them for a week or so and then freeze them in paper bags.

I tie the castors off with string so nothing leaks out. Then hang them and air dry until they are a nice deep brown. Then into a gallon jar until I need them. No fridge or freezer needed.
I have not seen any loss of potency with this method. In fact, seems to work better than fresh or fresh frozen.

I agree 100% with TasteLikeChicken's preparation and method. Semi-dried and dried castors do not need preservatives or refrigeration as they do not spoil. If stored in jugs, I stretch screen over the opening to allow some air in and keep bugs out. Otherwise they may get a little mold on them. If castors get a little mold it does not compromise their value in lure making, one can just wash them off. Ace
