To make it you will need 3 items.

(1) A big strong S hook. The one that I used is about 21/2 inches long and is probably about 3/8 inch thick.

(2) Twist link chain. I don't know what size chain that I used but each link is almost an inch long. I used 13 links.

(3) A five or six foot metal fence post,,,, the type that has the little raised ribs like this one.


Insert one end of the s hook hrough both end links of the chain and close that end of the s hook,,,,so that it looks like this:


To use, just simply slide the chain over the post and hook the open end of the s hook through the cable loop. Then put the bottom end of the post on the ground and push up on the upper end,,,,like this; As you start pulling the stake out you can just slide the chain to a higher "rib" and lift again. I pulled a retrievable super stake with 18 inch cable out of frozen ground this morning and did it fairly easily. Maybe this will help someone avoid chiropractic visits or the roids.

All the hours of "home projects" as I've welded at work to come up with something like that. Then BAM you show me something that simple making me look like a fool. lol
That's a great idea and one I'll sure try out on the last few cable stakes I've got rigged. Those MB super chain stakes are the cats meow for coyote staking. May take a little heavier puller for them, but I'll keep the technique in mind. Thanks!

I think that would work pretty good on a couple 24" rebar stakes I have that won't come out. I think they might be tangled in roots.

Sometimes trappers walk their lines. And at times their long walks.
It isn't always practical to carry extra "stuff". Fence posts being one . I made this to carry in my trappers tote. I use it on rebar as the pic shows, and another with a 1/4" "S" hook for the super stakes. For you machining experts . I got way too carried away with that rebar end. The ones I make now just have a slot milled from the open end of the tubing. All stainless too.Except link.

May have to try dat!With my rebar stakes,i just hook my claw hammer around the washer,comes out of the ground fairly easy.

I use a pick axe, then I can also use to dig beds in semi-froze ground, But a very good Idea!!

I know its a hassle to carry a jack around, but I do roughly what Doublesettrigger said. I use a small floor jack. Put the loop of chain over the head of the jack. I hook the S hook on the chain by the stake. Put a piece of 2x4 under the front part of the jack and start raising the jack. I've taken stakes out of the ground that were frozen in this way. Hard to explain but it does work. Brad

Try the High Desert Spear. With that one you can shorten the cable and it is easier to dig out with a pickax. Faster to install also, with a shorter cable, still has more holding power over other anchors.

Here is what made up and use. I now have 2 chain links on the hook closest to the "T" to help reach further down the trap chain. It may be heavy, but have had many times in frozen soil where anything less wouldn't have been enough. I wouldn't be without it.

I made mine out of 2in black pipe with a 4inx6in shoe welded to the bottom and a 3/8 s hook on a ring welded about 18in up the pipe.

P.s. if that don't get it i get the tracter with a chain. just hook the chain hook in the chin and around the bucket and raise up. Best puller i ever found. No effort required at all!!
