Quick questiom fellas,

I caught my first yote earlier this year ad he is skinned and frozen. I've gotten plenty of practice putting up reds and I wanted to get that practice before putting up the coyote to send to the tannery. The reds have come out well and I've got the bugs worked out I think, but I want no chances with the coyote.

Read quite a bit about applying some borax around the head/ ear area in particular. Do you guys just rub the borax into the flesh side of the head and ears before boarding? That seems to be the jist of it from what I can tell. Thanks in advance..

You can do that and board it skin out about 8-10 hours then turn it, or you can do the entire flesh side, and turn it in about 2 hours, your call on that.

A "half truth" is still a whole lie.

Makes that much difference?? wow. The only issues I had with the reds was the first few slipping very slightly just behind the ear. That was what I'm worried about on the yote.

Borax will help prevent that, but removing as much ear cartilidge (sp?) is important as well. Yes it makes that much difference. Borax acts as a preservative, and since you intend to tan your yote, completely covering the flesh side will greatly cut down your boarding time.
I have heard one or two guys on here say that they apply it to the whole hide, and just put it on the board fur out to begin with.

Here is a link to a post I made regarding how I use it. Same would be true for yotes-

If your going to send It to the tannery you don't have to turn the hide fur out. Just let It completly dry fur In then you won't have any problems with drying or slipping.
I would still use a bit of borax In the arm pit area.
