Maybe your anise has a high sugar content. Seriously, honey does the same thing. Nuke it for 20- 30 seconds and see if it liquefies again.

I have a couple of pints that I keep in my fruit cellar. The temperature there is about constant at 60F and I have never had it coagulate like that.
Wonder if the purity or grade may be a factor instead of temperature, or if oxidation may be responsible independent of temperature. Interesting.

I did a little research and found this....
Anise solidifies, or freezes at 59 degrees F., this is a criterion value of anise. During cold weather months the anise may become solid during shipping. Do not be alarmed, this is actually a normal occurance. In other words, if crystallization has occured, it is your assurance of good value anise. If the anise has crystallized, warm the anise oil until it is liquified and shake.

You can use warm water in a bowl to get it back to a liquid. You really have to get it warm for it all to liquify.I would not use a microwave. I always used hot water for years but then I was sometimes in a hurry to use it so I tried the microwave. I haven't had any problem with the microwave but be sure if the whole bottle is put in the microwave that the cap is just loosely on so it doesn't explode.

The Anise sat in 5the shed all winter under them temps...And then solidified when I took of the cap to add to a lure....So exposure must play a part too It is much stronger them what I am used to as well.... Now I have a 5 gallon pale of food lure that smells different then Last years.....basically unproven...... Hats of to you guys like Lt, Dobbins and ACE...and others that make consistent lure year after year....

It became president of the United States. It appears by the photo we are speaking of a light colored anise vs a dark variety. Mike

My anise locked up this morning! I went out this morning and set some rat traps. I pulled a new 4 oz. bottle out of my pack and put some on a cotton ball. Before I could get the top back on it solidified. Pretty cool, never seen that before. Temp was about 39F humidity near 100%. Had the consistency of soft paraffin. When I got home I nuked it for 40 seconds (cap off) and it liquefied again.

Mr. Lenon,
Re:". . . the spearmint overpowered everything for months until it nearly drove me crazy."
