I'm having trouble with a gray squirel job. I can clearly see the where it's entering through a hole in the rake edge. Unfortunately it's right where the power lines enter the house. So I've been trying to catch this gray squirrel from the attic. Are squirrels harder to catch inside like this? I tried cage traps baited with peanuts and commercial bait for several days, no luck. I have since resorted to a conibear trap, but can not place it directly over the hole due to the house construction. Would it be better if I set a cage trap on the roof??

Sounds like you're dealing with a nursing female. They're always harder to catch. I do have better luck outside than in. I'd put a two door cage trap on the roof. They seem to enter cages they can see through a little quicker.

Thanks Paul. I just spoke with the customer, they have not heard anything for a few days now. Maybe my efforts spooked it off (??). Might be time to place a soft block in the hole.

I agree with Paul that the outside is mostlybetter but sometimes wires or other dangers will drive me inside. Sometimes entering the attic stresses the animal and it might take a couple of days for the squirrel to get comfortable with you trap. Cage traps work inside but then you have a customer that may worry about the squirrels comfort. I like to put the conibear over the hole like you tried, wooden cubbies with conibears, tube traps and cages on the roof.
corn on the cob, peanut butter with black walnut oil or black walnuts are some of my favorites.
If you are doing the job at a flat rate and you don't need a head count I would use vanish from WCS. Raccoons prey on squirrels particularly babies and I believe I have moved some with it. I'm getting ready to be more scientific with my research.

Normally I would feel embarassed Paul, but you got me to thinking. If you send me four ounces and I use it successfully, that might prove that my stuff was a fluke. I'll give her a try.

Luckily were not normal so we don't embarass normally. I got a hold of Mr. Vanish himself and he is going to send you the real stuff not a pacebo this time. Use it on coons also. Ok I;m thru having fun hijacking this thread crazy.

Hey greyfoxer, best thing I have found to get foxes to move their pups is human urine poured on an old shirt and left at the entrance to the den. Disturb the area a little with a rake or shouvel. I charge $150.00 for this never seen it fail. Drink more coffee to refill the bottle for the next time. By the way tell the customer it is fox repellent which actually it is!

grey foxer I don't have any experience using vanish on grey foxes. I am going to try Eric's suggestion using the urine of the ultimate predator. The principal sound logical and crazy. I like both those principals. crazy
