I know this has been covered before but I didnt find anything in the archives. I have several bottles of lure and bait left over from last season, I also have some baits I am aging I put together with meats from last seasons catch. The same goes with urine, got some left Id like to save.

What is the best method of storing, refrigeration? Running a fridge all summer just for lures and baits for most would not be economical. How bout next best method - cellar or basement? On the ranch we keep medications and wormers that dont need refrigerated in an old non working refrigerator, the idea is that the insulated fridge keeps the temp more stable not so hot so fast on an August afternoon.

I know plenty of trappers that have a cabinet in the garage or fus shed were they keep all their good smelly stuff, these buildings are not cooled and on a sunny August afternoon in Kansas you can cook an egg on the sidewalk (really Ive done it!)

How bout sharing some expeince, wisdom, and opionons (right or wrong) about storing methods. Thanks, Rob

I store in the basement these days where the temps stay pretty even.

I've stored lures, baits and urine just about everyway I could think of short of the freezer and honestly......couldn't tell any difference one way or the other.

i just keep mine in the shed.

as far as the urine, ill uncap it for a day, let the ammonia volotalize off, then add "fresh" to it.

Store in a cool dark place. Keeping lures and urine out of the light is more important than being cool. Light quickly changes the color, odor and consistency of lures. Cameron2's burial idea is a good one if one has the place to do it. Ace

Mine are stored in the fruit cellar - a cool, dark room in the basement.

I have a dirt cave that keeps my bait cool and it is dark unless I open the door...

Yep I agree......I keep everything in the pole barn (just setting out)where temps get close to 100 + at times...never had a problem....but do keep out of the sunlight.

I put everything in a plastic tote type box, form Wal Mark and it goes in my Beer refrigerator, in my shop. I don't drink but I have friends that stop in for a beer, it runs all year anyway!

Ok, keep outa light - does it make a diffrence wether we are talking sunlight or manufactured light ( filiment or flouresant )? Also if light is such an issue, why dont lure makers sell their products in opaque bottles? Help keep the light out for a minimal cost and thus help preserve their product for better results on the line and in the end a repeat customer? Not trying to start a big debate here on what lure dealers should and should not do, just want to keep my investments in lures and bait as sound as possible.
Thanks, Rob
