does anyone ever treat there stretching boards. i noticed a few of mine are starting to get a little humidity mold growing on them and was thinking about water sealing them. Didnt know if that would cause any problems or not though with leather-in critters? Also thought about laquer to but what ever is easiest is probably what i will do like a thompson water seal or something.

I seal them with spar varnish when I first get them. I put a coat on then let it dry,and each board gets three coats before there ready to use.You may want to sand them a little between each coat, just a real llite touch sanding. I also give each old board a new coat before the start of each season, this I feel prolongs the life of the board, plus they just look sharp when there done..................RT

laquer really isn't a sealer stain paint would be also try using linseed oil we use it on alot of our outdoor products just give it 3 heavy coats 3 days apart it will not go bad before the stretcher is bad

Wipe the mold off and use them. Ain't never sealed a board in 45 years of use. coongrease etc does a fine job and the mold don't bother a thing if you wipe it off.

I rub my boards with paraffin each year. Not so much for mold but to make sure the hides release easily as most all of mine are leather-in furs. The edges of the boards are the most important and the top of the head.
