The track measured 8 1/4" and the "old add an inch" rule has been real close a couple times for me. After watching this one most of the afternoon the one I saw later was noticeably bigger.

I use 8' 3/8" solid copper rods driven deep under a overhanging roof line for a good ground. A good ground is the whole ball game.
My bride and I sat up all night waiting for the peeping tom but not a bit of activity. When its quiet like last night you can usually hear them in the river but nothing last night.

I have often thought about using a motion detector/car alarm type of set up at the cabin. I wonder if the bear would react to a voice telling it to MOVE AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. ?

If so, I was considering running it off a solar panel.

I suspect it would work a few times on each bear but when there is no physical consequence they might ignore it after a few encounters.

have a good (dishonest) 10 1/2 footer.

White, I think you're probably right. They would get accustomed
to it. A solar panel where you're at would probably get enough sun in the summer to keep a battery charged though for an electric fence. May have trouble with grass growing up and shorting it out over the summer.

Don't know if I posted this before or not but the $80 motion detector/heat sensor wonder alarms I have worked OK a couple times and like everything but the electric fence and triggermortis they get aclimated. In this case they just bit into them and busted them.

I never thought about the grass. That could be an issue alright.

To keep the grass down, i recommend having UB's bride show up once a week, it looks like she does amazing work with their lawn.

I was thinking of putting a sheep inside the fence. Less air fare that way.

Here is just a small portion of the brides yard of the year project. Converting it from an alder maze to this by hand was not a project for the timid.

Bob, I know "flapping" was a common pratice for some of the guides when I was in the business, probably has only gotten worse since.
We usually have to take a weed eater to the fence row a couple times a year. Not sure about sheep but cows and horses won't get
closse enough to the fence to keep the grass grazed down. On a small temporary fence you could probably do something to keep the grass down, rototill the fence line or maybe burn it out with an overdose of fertilizer.

With ken chasing the sheep, it will be as close to the fence as it can get, no worries there.

I don't like the smell of burning wool.

Just spray under the fence with Round-up and kill the grass under it.

A real "hot" charger will actually kill the grass it comes in contact with.

I might have to try the round-up next year. Hard to keep up with
the weed whacking sometimes. The charger will burn some grass
and weeds, but between the red top grass, fireweed, puski,alder
and willows here it will over power the fence in about 30 days
during July and August when things are growing fast.

One issue with Roundup is that it has to go on when it is a pretty dry day. If not, it isn't that effective. One thing I used in SE that worked rain or shine, and had a long killing effect for things like salmon berry vines or Sitka rose bush's was a Blackberry vine killer that I got. Stuff killed alders, small trees, willows, and all those hard to kill things, and could go down in a down poor and worked for a long time. I would bet if you mixed it up in a watering can and just laid it down along the fence line that it would keep most everything dead for a while along there.

ya they make a brush killer that i used at my office got it at homedepot i don't know the exact ingredients but it kill everything dead...gotta do it when everything start actively growing in spring for best results..... bob aparently the don't sell it anymore but this is the stuff....
