In areas where you have the houses built upon a steel post and wood pad foundation , is it common practice to vent the clothes dryer directly under the house , instead of out the side of the house ?

First time I ever saw it done like that .

Im looking at houses in the Valley and if it sold that cheap it has major problems. There was a house that was selling for about 75k that looked nice but was in a flood plain and the house had a wood foundation. The "little stream" had filled the basement more than once. Venting the dryer out the bottom will rot the sheeting underneth the house.

The alarm pictured is both motion and heat sensitive to prevent false pops in our breezes. When triggered they emit a constantly altered series of loud noises and also have a flashing light attachment with them. They work ok for awhile then the growlers get irratated by them and eat them.

Still hanging in there. The bride and I were up all last night guarding the windows but not a thing showed up. Managed to scavange together an electric fence today so will sleep tight tonight. While I was putting up the fence that boar in the photos walked right through my yard less than 30' from me with the gun setting about 30' feet the other way from me. Walked over and sniffed the sledge I was driving stakes with and kept on going. That guy sure looks a lot bigger at 30'. There was just two of them snorkleing in front of the house at dark so I'm sure the fence will get tested tonight.

No. The first cabin is owned by a group of Dentists from Anchorage who hunt ducks mostly. The other log home belongs to a fellow from Utah who is only here during fishing season.
There is one other set of buidings next to us upstream that used to be a lodge but is now owned by a family from Wyoming. That is seasonal also and it is just my bride and I here till next spring.

If you mean into a crawl space, the answer is no. It will cause rot because of the humidity. If it's open then yes. It prevents cold air from coming in the vent.

After reading the property condition report and looking at all the interior pictures, it was worth about what it sold for . I think the value was in the land. 3.29 Acres on a Lake in Wasilla.

Update on the Great Growler War of 2010.
After I got my cobbled electric fence up wasn't sure if it worked or not. After fishing for a while early this morning the larger bear I had photographed several times was feeding out behind on berries and came near our yard but took a wide berth around the fence. About ten minutes later his smaller snorkeing bud showed up. As you can see in the photos we walked towards the fence then parraleled it for a while then got energized. The time between the 2nd and 3rd photo was incredibly quick and I would of liked to of captured the exact monment he was lit up. It didn't smack him as hard as I expected so better check the fence.

Well I have to say...at least it is working, perhaps not up to your standard but none the less working.

I think you need a motion sensored vidio camera to share with the rest of us. You get all the fun of watching your neighbors getting poked and lit.

We always bury the moose like that in the permafrost with the horns exposed so we can locate them during the winter for food. Saves on power for the freezer.
Fishing for salmon at least has been over for weeks its just the snorkleing growlers that are bottom feeding.

UB thank you for sharing the pictures and bear adventures in your back yard.

Just showed them to my wife who is always worried a bear ( black or Griz) "may" show up at the trap camp. She is paranoid about bears. After these pictures and your posts I think she realizes that a "show up" at our camp is a lot more rare than she thinks being that there is no salmon to attract them. Also we are very careful about garbage or anything that may attract bears.

Good point about the clean camp. We work very hard at that including burning trash with diesel which seems to help. When they tried getting in the living room window the other night we wondered because we had nothing inside other than cookiong odors that must of done it. Had to be some reason they went for the house versus the other buildings. Our problem is we are right in the travel path from the fish in the river to the berries out behind. One plus is the growlers showed us a couple berry patches we overlooked.
