Well, I was just gonna go out and set some yote sets for a "Pet Yote" ... Then on the local news some very young child passed on from BUBONIC PLAGUE....It's not new to the AMA...it's a inflected flea that hangs out on his hOost like prarrie dogs and fox..skunks..etc.. I've actually heard of a few trappers in Texas that got the plague from an infected flea...Can a person protect himself with personal protective equipment..like rubber gloves???..So I'm really wondering about it...Oh I have the yotes for collection of urine..and iffin I right those trappers in Texas DIED.
I can catch them here...I can catch them ANYWHERE

Sounds like you should be wearing full protective chemical suits with oxygen tanks.

It has been around here for several years, Colorado too. the PD's and other rodents are the carriers, it seems like a lot of cats get it.....and that is good!!

you guy's make sure you keep those Texas flea's in Texas-I don't know about the plague ,but I got Tulerimia {Rabbit Fever} from skin'in a yote 3 year's ago, that was enough for me,don't want no plague-- How long did you have it before you caught it and got it treated? We know a person that caught it late and has really messed up her life.

Yeah, My trap dog tested positive for tilaramia..{rabbit Fever] ...yeah knocked the dickens out em..carried in half dead and tears in my eyes....But with the help of some high powered antibiotics...he lived on....but the deal when a flea bites you think your dead pretty quick...And iffin you live thru it without losing a limb or your eyesight..yeah....They say most folks aren't the same anymore..cause of the extremely dangerously high fever you get.....whow....

welll a lady near Seattle got the plague last year and was treated in a hospital and went home a few days later, it is all about catching the symptoms and getting to the doc early. The lady got bit by a flea when she was weeding her flower garden, no animal involved. Another guy, a trapper in the 80's got it near Yalima, Wa he was treated in the hospital and went home. Because he suspected it was plague and went to see a doc and told the doc what he had been doing.
The key here is if you suspect it see a doc quick don't wait. Any animal that carries fleas can give you one, walking through the grass can get you a plague flea. wear latex gloves when skinning. take other preventive measures. I've handled plague coyotes since the 70's still haven't got it, but use proper methods when handling them also, Remember a cold coyote doesn't have fleas.

the flea gets the bacteria from biteing a rodent as a general rule, the bacteria grows and clogs hos stomach, he begins to starve, when he bites a new critter or even the same one he cannot satisfy his hunger, so he overeats and vomits blood with the bacteria back into his critter, thats how ya get it. most large outbreaks of this type of plauge is caused by the local rodent gettin sick of something else and croaking, then the fleas go to jumping on everything, untreated death rates run 50 to 90 percent, treatment is easy and fairly cheap, and real successful, however there is more than one type of plauge, its harder to cure those.

heres the thing tac20, ya heard the feller got it from a early cat and no gloves, but he could have got it from his dogs, or some praried dogs he was usin fer bait, or a remake at a coyote catch, or near the haystacks where some rats were denned, or from amkin some getter lure from gophers or ground squirrels, or any one of a million other places, the critter the fleas live on dont need to be infected with the sickness, some are immune, starving fleas falloff the critters they were on and then climb up a fellers boot for one last try at survival and thats it, the point is alot of folks are in a possible exposed situation alot of the time, you can die from a rattle snake bite, a cut on your hand, a heart attack, running into a boulder when looking for a coyote, heck a bolt of lighgtning can get ya and a million other things, fleas is just one of many, id be more scared of skeeters myself, they give ya stuff is way harder to cure and way more expensive and way more likely to kill ya or be misdiagnosed.
