Ha! He has a great job, he just needs a new internet geek! I made my first check tonight for dump rats. It was cold. -28 windchill and I don't think I was ready for it! I picked up 6 red popsicles. Two of the six were rubbed thanks to that wonderful rain we had.

Really, why would they have been rubbed from the rain?

Freeze thaw. They sit down in the freezing rain, sit up and their guard hairs get pulled out. That's my theory anyways.

We see that here too. What really bites is when you get a big, fat, fluffy, frocker and his tail looks like a fuzzy rope.

we had turkeys that used to do that, they were to fat to fly up and roost so they would lay down outside the barn and sleep, then get up in the morning and pull out feathers,by the end of winter they were pretty gross looking.

No, we are cold here. I think they rubbed when the temps were right at freezing. My fox were perfect (besides being blue) before that.

how do you know it was legally harvested if YOU did not harvest it??
Did anyone else read the AK trapper mag this month, where it says that prebaiting is illegal and considered either littering or illegal dumping???

I have a question on the intent of one the trapping regs regarding baiting...
It says you can use non salvageable parts of legaly taken game animals as long as they are moved from the kill site. does that mean technically that if you come across a carcass of a caribou or moose that was harvested legally you can not trap near it? How near is ok? How far does it have to be moved? I dont understand the intent of this reg?? Lets say you inadvertently snare a moose in a wolf snare. You must of course salvage everything you can but cannot trap closer than 300 feet from it. That's understandable. Now say you find a dead caribou that died of natural causes (wolf kill, old age,). I would say you could trap right at the site. You find the gutpile from a legally taken moose. I would think it would be reasonable to place sets 300 feet from that site just as the restriction is on the incidental take of the moose in example one. OR, move the gut pile 300 feet and set right there. Those might not be correct interpretations but I think they are reasonable. I suspect the reasoning behind the law is so that people aren't shooting big game during winter seasons and using it for a large bait site. They must at least do some work to move the pile before setting
