Ok, I'm new at recovering skunk essence. I just did 2 skunks yesterday, and I got around 30 cc's of essence from them. I extracted it with a needle, and squirted it into a 1/2 pint jar, screwed down a new lid, and stored in a fridge.
What now?
How to preserve?
Will it eat away the rubber on the lid?
Any and all other ideas to keep it & how to use it?
(And no, don't ask me to send it to ya, as I want to use it myself!)

I store mine in the freezer, don't worry it won't freeze. If you don't have a freezer you can send it to me.

I wouldnt put it where your food is stored because no matter how hard you try everything in there will seem to smell like skunk. I store mine in the trap shed. And most every body that no's me will stay away from it. I seal the jar with a lid. and then wax the lid. Further sealing it but like i said before it will still smell. But if you plan to do some bait making dont wax the top you will be sealing and unsealing it. The essence will be potent and if you have the time go to store and purchase some peanut oil and cut it down. Trust me it will take that 30 cc and turn it into a pint. Then use that mixture to make your call lures and mix with your tainted meat baits. But also save some to use just as it is on a q-tip to drop in some hole sets for yotes and fox it works great. All ways use the essence in moderation. A little goes a long way. And works great in cold weather.

It will eat the rubber seal in a while. put Aluminum foil under the seal. and a quart jar is a way to large, a 2-8 ounce bottle is enough container, just remember to put the aluminum foil under the cap and you will be OK. I always just bury mine. or store it away from the house. Yancy

One can bury the jug under a few inches of sand in a 5 gallon bucket, this will keep it cool and from stinking up one's storage area. Ace

I liked it when drinks came in 8 ounce glass bottles ... they sure were great storage bottles

No need to preserve - a few wraps of teflon tape around the threads will ensure a tight seal. Then I'll usually put a few wraps of electrical tape on the outside rim once the lid is screwed on. Put that jar/bottle into a wide mouth mason jar and screw on the lid. Never had any problems doing it this way. I don't do anything else special to store it, just keep it out of direct sunlight.

Couple suggestions ... have multiple containers instead of one large one. And you might want to have a bottle of pure esssence and another cut with vodka and glycerine, then you'll have a great skunk tincture to use when a milder level of skunkyness is desired.

You will never get that skunk smell out of your fridge once it gets in there lol ... fridge's and freezers bring that skunk to life ... regardless of your storage methods! Trust me on that one!

I put mine in one of those blood viles that you can get at any vet supply stores. I dip the cap end in hot wax and store in a glass jar in the ground.

i think i got this from mac the diver some years back, it works, take a clean or new paint can, need to be like new include the lid, not a platic one either, has to be metal, for filler you can use sodium bicarb from a feed store, cornmeal, or scent free kitty litter, put a bit of filler in bottom of can, then set in jar, i tape the lid on my jars, then fill to the top of the can with filler, then tap lid on tight, you can store it under your bed and no one will know.

What about the vodka & glycerine mix? Approximately how much of each etc?
Also, how much essence do y'all add to jar of meat? Say a 1/2 gal jar, 2/3rds full of meat. Do you taint a bit first or do you add it to fresh meat?

Just taint your meat and for a 1/2 gallion about 1/2 teaspoon full that will be plenty.
