I have caught coyotes using bobcat urine....

I have also seen Asa post that he uses cat urine and gland lures as a change up for coyotes....

But good kitty pee is hard to find....

Speaking of good kitty pee, we need to put out an APB on Tommy - eh BB? I haven't seen him yet at any of the conventions.

Bobcat gland is a good change up yote lure. Coyote gland works really good for tom bobcats also. Go figure

I have used it where I knew there were cats and coyotes traveling the same trails and have had good luck with it.

In my region at least, bobcats respond to coyote and fox urine as readily as they do bobcat urine. I've never in 50 years saw one shred of evidence to suggest that even one bobcat ever passed one of my coyiote sets lured with coyote lure and coyote urine. It is my opinion that bobcat urine better serves as a change-up for set wary coyotes than it does for attracting bobcats. Ace

ASA, Interesting comment.

The old canine feline relationship goes way back in genetics for sure, and the curiosity factor is ingrained in all wildlife, including humans too. With that in mind, I understand where you are coming from for most of the year. Yet, during breeding season, the search for an animal of the same kind pretty well over rides most other instincts except fear perhaps, so during bobcat breeding season, I would disagree with that statement, while agreeing with it for the rest of the year.

I have made the statement and been criticized severly for it too, but still believe it anyway, that Urine is Urine is Urine for most of the year, yet during breeding seasons, urine from an animal of it's own kind I do believe is more apt to hold some extra appeal.

So now let me get a real fire storm started: I belive that more animals are caught on urine than any other single lure that has ever been produced, and I believe that Urine can also be over used, both in quantity, quality, and when used at every set made on a line. I will stop there for now and see where this leads.

Slim I agree with most of your thought process, but don't seem to get what you mean when you said "over used in quality"....please explain.

Ive found bobcat gland lure/urine, ESPECIALLY a set that's caught a bobcat and been remade are very attractive to gray fox and vice versa though i NEVER hear anyone mention using gray fox gland lure as a change up on the coyote line.

Ive not used bobcat urine or coyote urine in years as ive found red fox urine to be a good all around attractor to about everything AND ive not seen any bobcat urine in many year's that id care to use anyway.

As Slim stated though, the 'scent' of another bobcat during breeding season does hold a stroner attraction it seems to other bobcats so that's when i'll use the bobcat gland lure more so than at other time's.

A straight shot of red fox urine ive no doubt has been the death of more coyote's than about anything else though! Sorry lure makers, lol.

Jt,

I bet a coyote, other than the old male, would shy away from gray fox... I bet a gray could run a coyote out of the country, if they wanted to...

I used gray fox urine one year, and had gray tracks stopping in the road and would not work the set, but I would catch them in a cat set somewhere else.....

Don't think so BB, around here once the coyote's moved in you were hard pressed to find a grey fox, have to make sets in the thick bottoms and kill 1.2 million possums and coon's before finally catching the 2 grey fox living there, lol.

I have seen a grey fox back a coyote up in a dog box though, lol.

As for your lure buzz, NOW YA TELL ME!

Coyotes are big chickens actually. I have seen an old sheep that could not hardly walk, survive by herself all winter where coyotes were thick, simply because she could not run, she would turn and square away then stamp her feet and snort. Seen it a couple times actually. Gray fox survive better with coyotes for two reasons, they are a fiesty little dickens when cornered, and they also can climb trees. Red fox depend on their speed and quick darting movements, and coyote overtake them and win the race everytime.

But back to the urine thing again. I still believe that for most of the year, urine is urine is urine is urine. Curiosity of other animals in the area, is one guess, but simple survival is another when animals rely upon their instincts to what is around them. I had coyotes penned up for urine for several years in Montana, and used only coyote urine at all my sets, because it was cheap for me, and readily available. Never once on good snow cover, when sign was very easily read did I ever see where a red fox or bobcat did not investigate coyote urine, yet I have trappers try to tell me all the time that red fox and gray fox will shy away from coyote urine. I still have to see it one time, somewhere to believe it.

TimRose,
I think essentially you can use too much urine (quantity) and I think some urine has too much food particles in it (quality)
