Hi All,

I have been reading a lot, but this is my first post. I trap the family property in Blaney Park Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. We have a lot of coyotes and some Bobcat also. I have read that adding SFE to urine for post sets is a good thing to do. Has anyone else heard/tried this. I was going to try it on half my post sets this fall.

Thanks,
Brian

I'd say an ounce to a gallon of urine. Good sharp spike!

Asa might have some good input.

Welcome to the forum bhugo, I used to trap the whole Blaney Park refuge for years back in the bounty era.

In my opinion, SFE is a better skunk lure than a coyote lure. There is no reason to add SFE to lure for a scent post when plain urine or a good gland/passion lure will do the job. Scent posts should be highly visible from where animals are passing and the main calling in itself without lure. SFE would fall into the catagory of a call lure when the visible, eye appealing scent post is already calling them close enough to smell the urine or gland lure. Ace

I never mixed any with urine, but have used it on cotton balls in cage traps .. caught skunks and a confused ground hog or two lol

I too wouldn't feel good about ruining a gallon of good fox pee!

I'd rather add fox glands if anything or just use plain urine ... Carmans pro mix has taken good numbers of fox for me in the past

No need for synthetic fermented egg ... got dang near a half gallon of the real thing!!! And it's coming along good Asa! Lota skunks in that jar! \:\)

Using SFE at a scent post was one of the things that Mr. Red Edegemon taught. He taught that 1 to 3 drops drizzled down the scent post before the urine was added improved the set. Mr. Red also taught that SFE was powerful stuff, and could ruin a set.
He always said use no more than 3 measured drops (eye dropper).
He explained it this way "If you use too much, it will burn their noses, and make them avoid the set." When he pre-mixed the urine for this set, he used ½ oz of urine, and added 3 drops of SFE.
All I can say is try it for yourself. But don't mix it in large quanities, until your are statisfied that it will work for you.
Adios,
45/70,

'Skinner, looking good! My egg shells need to be "cracked" open daily. Gas vapors are smellin' the neighborhood up. Figure we are going to kick some extra "butt" this coming season...with our luck...like Asa said...it'll be SKUNK BUTT! lol

mchewk - it's coming along! I've added SB and asafoetida. Really calmed it down. Very mild, but what I smell and what a critter smells is no comparison!

I put some in a squeeze bottle and added some glycerine. Plannin on punchin in some test holes ans hangin a trail camera. I'm ok with having a killer skunk lure! lol

If nothing else i'll be feedin the ants!

I would love to see what you get on film! Is the real stuff stronger smelling than the synthetic?
