Man we got dumped on last night! It started around 6pm as a light fluffy snow fall and woke up this morning to something like 14 inches and still getting an occasional shower gonna be fun digging traps out after this at least it isn't wet

I'm glad we didn't get that!

More drifted snow than I thought. Like OM lots of snow over the hood. Probably change in a couple days.

I went out yesterday got across the river and by the time I got to the end of my line I had run out of it only 3 or 4 inches of new snow. Was a fun run I picked up some fur including a coyote. I don't see too many of them first one I have brought home in about 5 yrs

They seem to be up here I know of two others caught this year and I saw 2 one day but was unable to get to them due to low snow at the time. I guess someone took a picture of one this week right down town. Sure wish I could find a pocket of cats I haven't caught one in over 25 yrs in fact I have only got 3 in 29 yrs trapping up here got them all the first 2 yrs

I have seen about 4 coyotes caught here In the last two decades,I have yet to get one.
and the cats were scarce here in them days as well, and I waited the 10 yrs for the cycle to peak, and it never came in 15..so the last 5 yrs or so we have been building, shuld be getting close to the crash here soon, still good bunny numbers though.
if you have brush and bunnies you will get Lynx eventualy....we have high numbers of lynx right on the coast here, and thats in minnnimal cover as you well know.

YJ I have been waiting almost 30 yrs for that peak it all boils down to for whatever reason the Nushagak /Wood river drainages of Bristol Bay just don't hold rabbits or cats in any number. I think the last high I saw was the first few yrs I was here and there were several cats caught in the village but after a few years they disappeared. My nephew said he finally saw a lynx track when he saw his first one ever and he is 24 yrs old and becoming quite an accomplished trapper. He got 2 wolves this week his brother got 3 smile

They were missing from the Delta for years. YJ do you remember seeing any in the 80's Wasn't until around 95 that they showed up. Steady increase since. When I was there in 85 elders in Kotlik talked about how plentiful they remember seeing them way back when. My 8 years in Russian Mission prior to 95 I saw one track.
They are quite impressive how they can take the trapping pressure out here. Their ability to move in and fill in where cats are taken the year before is amazing.

In the early 80s they were rare around here I seen just a few tracks in certain places only,I remember having a good year back then and caught 3 smile but pretty hungry country back then, the fox were even scarce, after comming off the high prices of the late 70s pretty much kept even them down, thats when people trapped for a living around here.
today, we have them spilling out of the hills and filling almost every river, and slough has Lynx, even close to the village, and they can fill in a heavily trapped erea pretty fast, having said that,we now have around 15 new Lynx trappers here in this village alone, because of us buying fur again,I bought around 100 Lynx so far this year, and expect alot more before the end in March.

My hats off to the the organization you are working with Jeff. It has really been good to see the increase in trapping activity for the locals out here again. It was missing. Adds competition but it is a welcome site. The incentive kwikpakfisheries has provided is awesome for the locals. And having you out there providing support is a real plus.

Made another mail run today and got back just in time for another Chinook to hit and looks like it broke the ice up in the lake again. Strangest winter yet.

Looks like that was a nice mail run. Does the ice usually freeze up during the winter? Those hills really got me eyeing them to scout around smile
