this is pleurisy root or butterfly milkweed

the root

this stuff grows in prairies, wastelands, and roadsides.

it grows to around 2 to 2 and a half feet.................you will need a spade to dig this root.

butterflyweed was widley used at one time for pleurisy..hence the name.
it's used today for asthma, bronchitis, expectorant, a diuretic and a laxative.

i wash in a plastic tote and then i cut it up into 3 inch pieces, then place on screen to dry.

when dry i store the root in paper sacks or cardboard boxes.

never store roots or herbs in plastic.

my buyer quotes $4 bucks per dried pound

Have a lot of this growing near me, but no buyers, some folks transplant this as an ornamental.

yepper, thats the animal.

as far as the mullein goes, i use it for home use for colds and congestion.

the oil from the lil yellow flowers from the mullein is used in ear drops........that oil is a powerful antibacterial.
