When are hazelnuts ready to pick? I live in Northwestern Wisconsin and have a ton of hazel brush full of nuts.

Any help would be welcome on Hazelnuts'

Thank you

Ok, when is early fall? and what should you see in the fruite so you know when to pick?

Early fall can be the first week of August for us in the north sometimes or even October!

I'm in northwest wisconsin too, and in my experience, the minute they start to get ripe the chipmunks and squirrels will be all over them. Your best bet is to harvest them the minute the outer skin starts to split and dry. If you wait a day, the rodents will have cleaned them out.

In my area it is mid sept. You do have to keep an eye on them, things eat them fast.
