Yup. I googled it and it said they typically have two young but only one usually survives. The young are named Colts because they walk at birth. Earlier I had taken a photo of the colt and it looked to me like something with a paw larger than a fox took a swipe at it.

Hello!!! Now some of you may be wondering why a guy from Kentucky is posting on this thread, Well, here is the story. I am very new to this site and just happened to stumble upon it. In 2009 I had the extreme pleasure of coming up to Anchorage and working for the months of May and June. I have been in love with Alaska ever since. Not a day goes by that I don't think about and miss your beautiful state. I think that the first couple of days that I was on this site, I read every post on thread 5, and loved every minute of it. Now if ya'll will let me live some of your adventures vicariously through you I would appreciate it. I have even learned a couple of ideas that I think I may be able to use on my trap line here. While I was up there, I did get the opportunity to enjoy some Halibut and salmon fishing. What a blast and great table fare as well. I was also lucky enough to harvest a black bear on a do it yourself hunt. One of the guys that I worked with while I was up there showed me on a map where they had seen black bears, and away I went. What an awesome experience!! It probably wasn't a trophy by most people's standards, but it certainly was for me. I had never hunted bear before, and chances are very good that I never will again. Anyways, good luck to all with your outdoor adventures, and I look forward to reading those trap line journals and seeing all of the pics.

White, I gave it some very serious consideration. I went as far as to even find a civilian job (I was working for the military up there) while I was there. The only problem was that I only had a year left to finish up my college degree and wasn't excited about transferring because it would just take me that much longer to finish school up (I already had to take a year break for a deployment to Iraq). After I finished school, I found a job right away and found a young lady that I think very highly of. I am very sure that she isn't going to be excited about the thought of moving herself and her 7yr old son up to Alaska. It seems easier for me to find a good job than to find a good woman. LOL I really hope to be able to come back up there and spend a little time though. So for now I will just have to settle for reading through the adventures on here and torment myself about how to get back up there. smile

I understand your thinking. I'll bet that 7 year old son would like the thought of Alaska though......... smile

Looks like I will have to enroll my bride in your wife training school. She booked reservations into the big village and she was just there in May of 2010.

White, I think he would thing it is pretty cool up there. I hoping to get him out in the tree stand and out on the trap line a little bit this year. I think he will enjoy it as long as I can show him some success. I've had him out with me fishing several times this summer, and he seemed to enjoy that so we will see how it goes.

Let's see...in the past Ken has always had the idea for visitors to enjoy yourselfs while here but don't let the door hit you in the billfold on the way out [back home]......now he's wanting more folks to homestead up there...maybe just maybe that 16' fall did, well you know, did have an effect on him after all. :-) :-)

Well Paul, we can always use good people. They're just few and far between.

Bob: That's riduclous ! She should space her trips out more., Say every 5-6 years. That way she will enjoy them more and have a bigger list. Much more efficient that way.

Irish: I'm sure a little success will go a long way.

Ours are ready. I have to get picking before they drop off the bushes. So-so year for salmon berries here but our currants and raspberries are doing very well.

Wow those berries look good. Have been out checking twice and could not find a single berry. With all the rain should be building an ark.
