we have had snow here for over a week but unless we see more over this weekend, I dont think snowmachine travel will be an option for the opener here on tuesday.

Still raining and blowing. Hope for a break this weekend. Gotta get traps out to the sites before the season starts. Get them hanging and save weight on the skiff. Nice to just have to set them rather than have to pack them, as well as bait, come Dec. 1.
Just doing what I want now.

We usually don't get enough snow here until at least late Nov to push the deer down to the beaches, but then it's game on. Have the deer recovered in SE since the last major die off? That was brutal!

About 5-6 inches on the ground here, lots of floes on the river...but clear skies...

Deer are making a comeback in most areas. N.E. Chichagof is still suffering a bit, but showing signs of recovery. It was brutal. Die-offs in some areas was just beyond imagination. Beaches and tree lines were covered with dead deer.

Beaches and tree lines were covered with dead deer. That was the first year I was stationed in Sitka. Baranof wasn't hit quite as hard, but I remember seeing pics of dead deer covering the high tide line and floating in the water all the way to Juneau. We have had some serious winter kills here too, but that was unbelievable. Glad that they are filling back in.
