How'd that .243 do? Pretty interested in that caliber, would be a good starter for the kid before he graduates to the big .270 wink ! Glad she got one!

I bought it for my youngest son to use when he was 12. He put down a nice 3x3 with it on his first hunt. I went with the Ruger compact stainless as it seemed to be about right for him. Love that rifle! IMO the .243 is about the perfect deer caliber. Shot placement is important of course but any shot to the vitals equals a dead deer. We have killed 5 deer with it, 2 neck shots and three shoulder shots and all dropped either on the spot or within a few seconds. I don't take it into the bear zones without a back up though! crazy

He was definitely starting to rut. He had set up in a doe rich environment and had major trails and beds worn down in the grass. I could smell him when we were 20 yards away. The meat is hanging in game bags under the balcony (red neck wind chimes) and will be perfect in a week or so.

It just occurred to me that all of my kids- and my new son in law- killed their first bucks on their first hunt. It took me years to kill my first buck. blush smile

I don't know what to do......I took a leak out in front of the house yesterday and it snowed 2 inches last night. This morning wolf tracks came in and circled the exact spot then left the same way it came in......Should I bottle it or go see a doctor...?

Maybe you can get a contract with the Boss... I can see it now... Dobbins Wolf Wizz. You should hold it until you work out the details!

Cougartail,, We had a wolf in our yard this a.m. as well. My wife got out the door with a rifle just in time to see it dash in the alders.

SNOW! Got an inch or so last night, first of the season besides a trace the other day. It isn't much but it sure is pretty!

Finally getting some snow here. They have been calling for it over the last week but no luck until last night.

Around 3in. since 10pm and doesn't look like it will let up soon, sure hope we get around a foot by the 10th.

white17:

The river up in McGrath looks just about frozen over. Is this an early freeze for the river ?
