I always used DIY plucked beaver belly on my beaver hats. I never felt the backs were even comparable to the belly in quality of the end product.
The only place that I knew of that p/s was foxusa. I am sure they sent them out but had a price list.
I called to inquire about having just the bellies plucked and sheared. I would skin by cutting down the side in the area that the underfur really thins out. Leaving the whole belly intact. It would produce two hides per big beaver. Was going to be the same final price for the belly even though is was 1/3 the size so I bagged the idea. I love that plucked beaver belly.

TJ, Where they already tanned when you sent them to Tubari?

3 Fingers,

The ones I had died were already tanned. The 12 I sent to be plucked and sheared were just stretched and dried. I don't think they can pluck them once they are tanned as the tanning has set the hairs in the hide.

HFT, do enjoy the lovely weather! I wish i didn't have to work so much as i can play more. But rain, that makes it miserable. Luck out there.

My trapline is a gigantic mire of overflow and slush! Lots of critter running around but it's kinda difficult keeping sets in working condition.

Yeah, +34ish and "soupy" on the Kpen.
Shores, rivers, lakes, and streams are going to be a bit... interesting for a while.

Thinking of pulling some sets and doing a reset once things solidify again.

Thanks for all the info on the plucking shearing thing. Whats the final verdict on what can be done with tanned hides?

Only a few spots of snow left here with a lot of standing water. Lots of overflow and unsafe ice. After looking at the extended forecast it appears like only two options for mail by Christmas. Chopper or skiff.

UgashikBob...

As far as finished products go with plucked and sheared goods I can say the stuff we've had made is incredible in it's durability and softness. I had a plucked and sheared king sized beaver bedspread made about 8 years ago and it has held up to daily use very well. Sleeping under that thing is amazing and suprisingly not overly hot and stiffling. My wife has a plucked and sheared beaver coat that has a great 'look', not overly heavy to wear and so far pretty durable. I would like to get some pillows made in the future.

Man it's been a terrible 4-6 weeks. We have over 40 inches of snow already and more coming down right now. Another big low is moving in.

Ugh, I'd gladly take about 10-18" if we could! The Kpen is going through typical Chinook thaw/re-freeze, loose snow time right now and it is annoying.

Then again almost 4 feet of snow probably makes things just as, if not harder.

Yeah I'd be happy to see some of it go but will probably have to wait until May.
