If you can't get to the kits then leave the mom and just put a rag with ammonia on it and just let her do it for ya , go back the next day put on the chimney cap job done , works every time , it does bum me out when the guy on the next street calls because there's coons in his chimney ,if you can get to them just reach up there and grab them ,helps to move the damper over , If I'm not sure there not all out I send my cam in there to make sure ,nothing sucks more than having to go back after a kit , stupid stupid stupid is what I say all the way back , my personal record with my sons help is 4 min from the time we pulled in and till they were on the truck , it was are forth one of the day so we did have every thing ready . We make a great team love that boy

You got that right! I wouldn't do a "chimney chase-out" on a bet! You guys ever heard of [i]PWCM, WCT /i] magazine or NWCOA? "Works every time"...until mama comes back next spring. No thanks; I offer a warranty on my exclusion.

I would trap the mother with a chimney trap then reach and get the babies by hand and make sure to put something down to protect the floor and get the customer to sign off that some soot or dirt may get on the floor. I may use vanish rubbing it around the flue and dropping the paper towel down the flue, pray she moves them and she usually does. After doing both of these things I usually play a wildlife caller with some aggressive coon sounds maybe a distressed baby for five minutes or so. Sometimes she will come out into the trap and you can do it all in one trip. I also seems to increase the unsafe feeling of the fireplace enhancing the vanish effect. Finally I cap the chimney. Sometimes if the customer is a nice looking woman who seems to think I'm attractive I put on a kevlar glove, safety glasses so nothing falls in my eyes and reach up thru the damper and grab the mother by whatever and pull her thru the damper and into a grass sack the I have the young lady hold. Then I reach in with my bare hand like the other Paul said and delicately remove the babies. I act like I do it all the time. Then Her husband shows up and runs me off but not before paying me. The final solution was a joke don't do it I put that in for Dave.

What works for us is I get up on the chimney and I have one of two boys push her up to me with thechimney pole ,then i take the catch pole to her around mid body , then I yell fish on so the boy knows its time to get out before he gets a golden shower , then I pull her up and load her in a trap and meet my son at the truck with her kits , we place the kits in the trap with her , when we release them I run her up the tree nice and high then place her kits at the bottom of the tree , and wish them luck , it seems to work , the place I can't get to the kits is mostly down we're the furnace chimney is , fer some reason some builders forgit to put in a clean out , this is rare but does happen

Pesky, I'll bet that if you go back to that tree next morning you'll find all the kits have died of exposure.

Are you tagging the sow and cubs and doing a follow up? Otherwise how are you confirming to Dave that your method of leave them by the tree is causing them to survive? I'm looking for clarity, not jerking your chain, saying it works means you must see that it has positively worked otherwise I'm sure you wouldn't be saying it does.
