You got past the canine nose, and got him to work your set.
(even if he did basically work you while he was at it)
It took me almost a full season with 12 sets out to get a dog to even come near my steel.

Once you can miss them you're just a few tiny little tweaks of technique away from getting them to connect.

It took me almost a full season with 12 sets out to get a dog to even come near my steel. At first all they would do is stop at about 10-12 feet away and leave me a present-in-a-pile. Or circle circle circle ... pass.

Thanks Bald. The hunter helped confirm the area but I knew from hearing them in the winter that they liked to hang out there. Hopefully I can get him when the corn or beans get picked (intersection of two fields).
