Dave, you have to remember that Mr. Flick, Nate, and I are from a state that came very close to having feral cats listed as an unprotected animal. ( This means you can take as many as you want, whenever you want, and do whatever you see fit ) IP, I remember back as a kid in Indiana in the early '70s FC Taylor had house cat listed on their fur price sheet.

Feral cats and particularly feral cat colony's really bother me. I was on our local humane society board for years and was able to keep us focused on animal welfare not rights. Finally some humaniacs got on the board and started supporting tnr's by all kinds of names. I told them that I like them held life sacred and I was coming down on the side of wildlife and could no longer be on the board. The feral cat is a serial killer and if tnr was the answer we should have done it to Ted Bundy. Instead of wasting all of that education. The cat is not wanting to have sex with it's victims so nuetering doesn't stop the carnage. Enough of my soap boxing. back to solving the problem at hand. Robb is right know "your"law. Some jurisdictions have passed laws and ordinances making it a serious offense to treat a cat inhumanely and that is in the eye of the beholder. In cage traps I cut a piece of card board to fit the floor then cut it across half way thru so that it bends at the trip pan and extends past it. A lot of cats step over the trip pan or stretch out over it. I think they just don't want to step on the different surface. The extension extends the trip pan so that it can't be avoided and you can semi hide the food under it. An instinctive behavior the cat understands. WCS sells Alley cat that is attractive lure for the finicky cat. The crossbow is discreet. You have be sure it is acceptable because the cat even with a good shot might go a few yards. A bad shot he may end up on the front page, CNN or worse. A dead cat is not worth much an injured cat isn't either but it could run up 10,000 dollar vet. bill and be the poster child for new laws and or fund raisor for years. The best option is take them to a humane society if you have that option and like Phil said never smile. The cat might smile while killing but we are above that. One other thing I am just starting to think about u tube facebook etc. I think we all should start making movies of cats killing and eating around bird feeders, walking on cars, pooping in the mulch, or just the poop sticking out, spraying peoples property and posting them on those sites.

From everything I have heard those two traps are great and they would eliminate a lot of problems from cage trapping. My post was for people having to operate with outdated stuff and helping them do their best. I would like to challenge you Mr. Winkelmann to stop running your trap and buy me the trap!

This is a very busy time of the year, Paul, but you've got my mind working on maybe getting some of these new traps into people's hands, maybe in fall when things start dying down a bit. Some kind of contest would be a good idea. Maybe limit the contestants to guys who don't already own one. ( Like you )
Hey Pesky, you really don't need a Comstock or DeKalb, or any other brand of cage for a dead cat. For whatever the reason, they just don't seem to be able to set it off.
