One of our technicians fell only a short distance off of a stepladder today. A freak accident that shattered his kneecap and he's probably getting operated on as I write this. Two years ago he fell of an extension ladder and last year he fell of the bleachers at a Brewer game. ( I'm thinking adult refreshment may have been involved ) We all really like Mike and this couldn't have come at a worse time.

Are there any secrets to posting an ad for a replacement until Mike gets back. He was our go-to guy for pest control so we need someone with a license or is capable of passing the test. Everyone else is pretty busy so I'll be in charge of training. ( But maybe I'll get someone else to do the "ladder safety" training. )

Sorry to hear that Paul.

Does PAT offer courses year round? Seems the only ones I can ever find are in the spring. I want to go take the aquatics course so I can start advertising moquitoe control. I took the "Landscape" course for that purpose only to find out it was the wrong course. Oops!

I'm pretty sure it does but we go to Waukesha and the instructor is my old science teacher. ( The sad part is that I'm going to be seventy and my high school science teacher looks younger than I do.)

Sounds like you better get this tech of yours a rubber suite so he bounces, or keep him on the ground.

Sounds like the fella needs a bit more ladder safety training or some yoga classes to improve his balance a little.

I hate ladders, especially hate 40 foot. Used to like climbing and heights and such. It used to be fun.

Wish I could retire, but my money room is filled with mice.

Sorry to hear that Paul theres nothing good about that .it doesn't take much of a fall to do massive damage . I had a guy fall 4' and broke his leg bone right at the hip socket . That's when I learned that workman comp ins is not really insurance . It's more like they just loan you the money till its payed back . My rate went from 8% to 21% and I went from living good to eating peanut butter sandwichs . Ayear later I got into the accident fund and got it down to 17% and that helped some . I never did get it back down to 8% . I would never let that guy on a ladder again and would get him back on the job as soon as posable . Even if it's just to answer phones . It's hard on a employer when one of his workers get hurt . It's not just the worker that you feel responsible for it's his family as well . All thing will return to normal as things work out . As fare replacing your worker . Drive around and find a guy working for a different company and offer him more money . Might sound wrong but I've had it happen to me over and over , spend two years training a guy and then he quits and goes to work for the guy working across the street . One of the reason I would never hire again
