http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8VVUZAPjYg&feature=youtube_gdata_player. . I can't help but notice my local geese have changed where they choose to nest . One thing we do have here is lakes . I'm just guess that the goose around ups and egg shaking is the cause . The goose round ups around here are done and all the birds are taken to KY and released . After there relocation some stay but most just miss there birth place . Flying 55 mpr it doesn't take long for there return once there flight feathers return . The birds should be prosesed and fed to the hungery . This act is considered policaly incorrect by some . We can't even give are extra deer meat to the hungery anymore , a law was passed stopping this . It is truly missed at the soup kitchens .Egg shaking seems to be the way most property Owens on lakes choose to control the geese . Just seems like a waste of good meat to me . the meat can be made in sausage .hambuger ,jurky, makes the best chilly . Sept 1 is looking good for are goose opener . We have had a great hatch here

I was asked to look into this a few weeks ago. Relocation is illegal here in NY. I set it up with DEC for them to get a kill permit, but I don't know what they decided. I'll probably find out this weekend.

DEC figures that there should be population of ~87K canada geese in NYS. They estimate 250K. I imagine most of them live in areas where it is near impossible to hunt them.

There is a city pond here where they kept having to close the beach due to goose crap. They were going to harvest them and give the meat to the local food shelters. I remember a news blip from the local TV station of the people at the local shelter saying they wouldn't eat goose. My thought is they obviously aren't hungry enough. The solution to the pond issue was a couple weeks of bunny huggers in kayaks. All they did was make the issue somebody elses problem.

This stuff will drive you nuts , what's right what's wrong and there's what is being done . People don't want geese on there lakes ,then open the lake to hunting . I've done goose removal with my 10ga for 18 years at a local church . Before Ryan showed up with possy of hunters and 150 decoys spread out on there ball diamon . The good people would track in pounds of goose crap into there church . Before they had 1000 plus geese land on parking lot ,now there's a few that land but they keep to the pond . But those were the good old days they built a homedepot where the sweet corn field was . We would average 130 birds ayear and are best was 186 . If people don't like geese there just cooking wrong . You can't cook one like store bought turkey . The answer to your city pond beach problem . You just need to keep one Egyptain goose there . That goose is very aggressive toward other waterfowl and not people . The goose will attack and drive of all waterfowl . Your story reminds me of that time we where camped out on this lake which had a goose problem. People swimming in the lake were getting swimmers itch . Nasty stuff made them brake out all over there body's . me and my cousin were brook trout fishing this beaver pond and after we had caught are dinner fit for a king . We jumped in swimming because it was so hot . My other cousin started yell how stupid we were because of all the sharp sticks . Well the wimpy cousin that was yelling went into the lake swimming and got the itch like no other human on earth . It was like 90 out and he just keep digging at himself till he was bleeding all over . It got bad for him . We had fun reminding him how nice are swim went . Look in to get yourself a Egyptain goose . I would biuld him a small pen at first till he clams the pond . Also trim his flight feathers a bit so he doesn't fly off

This is really sad. I've always felt that the call of the Canadian goose was like the call of the wolf. Completely wild and awe inspiring. Since they planted those giant Canadas from coast to coast, they screwed up both species. I can now kill more Canada geese with my vehicle than I ever could, years ago, with a shotgun. Being a great goose hunter now compares to being a great mouse trapper.

Yeah Pesky, I've shot a few. Also snows and blues. It always bothered me that I was on the coast in Alaska and never got a crack at Emperors or Aleutians.

Migrating wild birds still fly over here. On a crisp fall morning, is still a thrill hearing them, remembering the good old days with my labs.

Nice . I've never shot a snow or blue . I've seen a couple but never got to pull the trigger on one . Now a lab I do have . For being under a year old . I've never seen or hunted with a dog like this . Taking him fur trapping with me last year really put a jump starte to him . His nose is really something . I'm thinking I won't need a gun , I can just run him around where other people have been hunting . Save on shells . I just want to eat them anyway . Mallard duck cook rare on top of rice . Poeple make a big mistake by over cooking wild game . Just cook it till it stops twitching . Wood duck down on the beaver flood almost makes me wish summer was over

I am a water fowler and fur trapper first but my Job is wildlife control and call maker. I will be a waterfowler and fur trapper long after I stop climbing ladders and going into attics.

I have not done a round up in 4 years. but did them for a good many years. the round ups never changed a thing in the hunting part of the game in my state. We are blessed with birds or cursed with birds depending on what side of the fence you are on, both rp all year and mp from Oct till Feb, there was months of June where I was plain simple tired of killing geese. rp birds learn where they are safe. they feed and sleep at the same place till the ice makes them go to open water sometimes LOL these birds live long lives I got a rp that was 12 years old and was banded a 1/2 mile from where I shot it in a sweet corn field. if the feed is close they just stay on the ice. the mp birds, they are the ones that move around alot. the snows start to show up Oct and leave late march early April. I saw one the other day feed with a group of honkers

any one want a goose or duck hunt let me know.

Most of the snows and blues that I've shot were mixed in with flocks of Canadas. ( The kind that actually come from Canada ) I've knocked down two geese with one shot several times but one time I knocked down three. I had to do a little sharing; the limit was one.

That's how I have seen a few snows around here . One opening mourning we were field hunting a cut corn field . The DNR was checking to see if my gun could hold more than 3 shells . Here comes a flock of 50 Canada's just floating over the spread and the last bird was a snow goose . Are you kidding me . DNR goes don't worrie it will come back .ya right . I seen a guy drop three with one shot years ago . We were hunting a local lake on state land . Lots of hunters but some times if the weather is right its good . A guy hunting all alone accross the bay had a nice flock of 20 Canada's come right into his setup. The first shot he missed the second shot he drop three . Problem was that year the limit was only 1 per day . He just grab the birds and his decoys and left out of there . We didn't say anything because it wasn't really his fault . We're in the James bay fly way . So some years the reg season is short and only 1 bird per day . Are sept season is 15 days and 5 per day . Then we have the jan season but most years it's just to cold and to much snow for the birds to stay Round here . Last winter the guys did good . I was to bizzy rat trapping . This year where going to go hard at the waterfowl . Got this new dog needs lots of birds shot over his head and my boys are getting older now so I can get hard core on the spots we hunt . Been taking it easy on them seeing they were just kids . Just wanted to make sure they were having fun . One can really freeze his rear end off on them cold windy days
