I was taught by someone who caught coons by the pile in pocket sets, so thats my mainstay. Ive started using 220 buckets, cause as they were saying, dry coon are nice. Location location location. Id rather have 2 great spots triple set then 20 wherever i could put one. The 6 will produce more in less time. I couldnt tell you how many doubles and triples are caught all 6-10 feet apart. We cant snare on land here, but if we could Id like to try that in the remote areas. Tip: if going with the 220 bucket sets, use the oldest, most faded, cracked, looks like from the 50s buckets you can. Nothing catches ol johnny sneakems eye like a new bright white bucket. Sticks out like a sore thumb. This year Im buying 20-30 live traps and gonna hit houses where theyre having a problem but live in town, close to neighbors and pets, ect. Hoping they pay for themselves in oh say.......10-15 years.....lol.

When making a pocket set do you bed the trap? If so how well does it needed to be beded?

How do you guys go about catching coon when the weather starts to turn colder?

Canine gland lures do pretty well when it gets cold especially for the dryland coon.

Bigger better furred 'coon in my region are usually the ones caught away from the water's edge...I say, "usually."

Skunky type lures really do produce well when the weather turns colder, just like it does on canines.

The block is both the bait station and the drag.
The trap is wired to the block, which sits up vertically.
Bait goes in the top slot/hole.
The trap, usually a coil spring, is bedded out front.
This set up is used often under bridges.
