Someone asked for the bread and butter pickle recipe I use. So i figured i would post it on here.
1st off i grow pickling cukes. but any will do just dont want them to big around not to fit in jars. this recipe takes 1 gallon sliced cukes. I slice mine 1/8th - 1/4 inch thick for crispness. some like them thin as possible it is a personell preference thing and is up to you. either way works with this recipe.
slice your cukes and put all in one bowl now take a handful of salt and pour over cukes shake bowl to let salt work thru. let stand 1 1/2 hours up to 4 hrs rinse very well in cold water. this drys out the cukes and allows pickling brine to be absorbed during cooking.
now in large pot mix
3 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon mustard seed
1 teaspoon tumeric 1 1/2 pints apple cider vinegar
stir in cukes and cook stirring often.Cook til all cukes have green color cooked out basicall they all need to look like pickles. Now Can
