It's called "Entitlement",gentlemen. Everybody wants something for nothing, these days. You should have explained to her that you needed the revenue so you could pay the taxes, that subsidize all the orher people with their hands outstretched.

Yep,the state of florida pulled that bull on me too.oh!!! The nutria are eating all of our trees!!!!! They started on the holly bushes!!( clearly beavers ) so I told them it sounded like beavers,no! It' s nutria!.....well needless to say when I got there and looked around, it was definately beavers.so I gave them the estimate it was going to cost to " catch them and relocate" them and they agreed.I SHOULD HAVE PUT THAT IN WRITING.IT IS GOING ON 2 MONTHS,and all I got was a hallmark card, telling me what a big heart i had and all this other bull, with NO CHECK!! I have sent in 3 invoices........wow!!!! What a rip- off! If I was facetious,i could stock their little pond with some grown beavers, but,it would not only be illegal, and karma would come back and kick me in the groin,as it has so graciously has done in the past. PUT IT IN WRITING AND HAVE THEM SIGN IT......lesson# 1

I had a call just today. The lady wanted me to come out to the day care and take the baby bunnies. They had them trapped in a hole on the playground.(yes, separated from mama bunny) Now they want me to come and get them before they die. When did I become a wildlife rescue service?! My wife took the call and informed the lady that I have to charge for my services. Silence on the other end for a while. Then finally she said "Well, please have him call me the minute he gets in." I DID call back just to tell her "Turn them loose and Mama will find them!" but she had already had some friends boyfriend come and take them. Little dead bunnies. Where's the game warden when you need him.

Once you hear that phrase "I will talk with my husband/wife and get back to you," is the kiss of death. I think I hear that at least a couple of times a month. still waiting for the them to call me!

This is how it usually goes; wife calls, then talks to husband. Husband says he'll take care of it himself and save the bucks. After husband screws it up, wife calls back, gives credit card and says "Please fix the problem!" Sometimes this takes days, weeks, months, and once in a while, a year or more, but they almost always call back. You have long forgotten the first call so you don't recognize the customer.

That is assuming the husband does not fall the $400 ladder that they will need.
Usually, a wife just needs the little doubt.

I was asked if I am heartless when I said that I couldn't help a lady remove emaciated cows from a field today. I'm not too sure that I could have fit them in my truck. Who knows. They were pretty skinny. I just had to do a drive by later in the afternoon.

I program every number that calls me, especially those that end well or end poorly. That way I've got a note in the phone reminding me the basics, species of wildlife and the persons name if they gave it, and whether they were "tire kickers," good folks, or other.... Saves me time and energy deciding how long to spend again on the horn with them. With my actual clients it tells them I know who they are when I answer the phone call with their name!
