Hello , I got called out to a home with a few Bats and very lilltle cleanup needed if any . About 5 min in it became very clear the home owner was looking at this to profit by making a claim and putting the money in his pocket . He was very well informed on how the whole thing works . He also began talking about how to get around competing with the reg insulation company's . The guy was out of luck because I only do spot cleaning and exclusion and the way he's talking I would never work with him on anything . Got me thinking is this abused . How long will ins company's cover this . It also got me thinking how many company's depend on ins claims . If insurance companys stopped covering this how many company's would go under . It would be sad to see them stop covering cleanup seeing afew people truly do need it and would not have away to pay forit out of pocket . Ive never had a customer act or talk this way in the past . Most people don't like the fact that a colony of bats have moved into there home . This guy acted like he hit the lottery and was looking for a partner . Not sure if he had cooked this whole idea up himself or is already working with a differnt company and just looking for a few est to turn into his insurance guy . Is type of insurance claim being abused any thoughts . I'm not pointing my finger at anybody or saying there's anything wrong going on . Just looking for thoughts on this

Wow, you guys are really behind the times. This whole deal has been discussed time and time again. Yes, insurance companys have been turning down claims and some are refusing to insure anything that breathes. We are trying to get a list of these companies and make them known but so far they seemed to have chickened out. ( From what I understand, home insurance has become a losing proposition for all companies because of the vast areas that have been totaled by our extreme weather conditions.) We can all expect to have our homeowner's insurance at least doubled in the next few years.

I actually had a guy call me a couple years ago to split the money with him and not do the work. I put him on a list and never got to him.(Funny how that worked out eh?)

I received a call from an insurance company today asking if a bill they have for a bat job was priced right. $1400 seemed about right for what they told me. I guess the insurance company's are figuring out the scammers.

It's interesting that this topic was posted as I kind of address some of it in the next WCT Magazine.

The bottom line is that you can only control yourself and there will always be those out there trying to scam the system for their own personal gain.

Insurance covers damage. Bats enter existing construction gaps...and do not cause damage to get inside.

Travelers insurance that called me was about an exclusion, no clean out. I guess this customer had a primo policy:)

Why wouldn't you put the repairs into the price of the exclusion? Kinda gotta repair in order to exclude.

As far as insulation goes I have no problem pulling out insulation and putting in new if it is going to give my customers the peace of mind they desire. Do they "need" a full clean out? Sometimes not, but if the insurance is going to pay for it and the customer wants it why would you tell them no?

I would like to know what you guys are doing in the attic for possible bat bugs, mites, or fleas? This goes for raccoons or squirrels also.
