Did you put that board up there then scribe it first then go cut it out .

scribing is what they call it when you cut it to fit like that, not sure why.

here is how you do this, and no you dont take a ton of measurements...

i put the board up there, and slid it snug to the house. I then leveled it, and put 2 screws into it to hold it secure. then i took a compass and opened it up to the largest gap, and secured it at that measurement. then it was as simple as holding the compass perfectly level, with the point towards the home and the pen side on the board and running it down leaving a line to cut the whole way down. my pen was on the fritz so what i had to do was do the same as above, but when the pen wasnt marking i just made some marks with a fine sharpee and after i was done i removed the board, put it on saw horses and connected the dots. Then it was as simple as cutting it out with a jigsaw.

It is a lot easier than it sounds and practice makes close to perfect. It helps that i worked as a carpenter during my summers in college. the KEY is holding the compass perfectly level!!!

You would have to pick out just the right board for that . Make sure it's still a little wet and not to many knots in it . That's problem with that home depot wood its all dried out and hard to work with . Wet wood also grabs the nails or screws after it drys it shrinks up . Wet wood bends so you can get it straight . Like when your building a deck you want the wood really wet . It should hit you in the eye when you hit it with a hammer . Looks like fun and should last years . Nice to stand back and go nice . Good Cornish man was worth big bucks not to long ago .

nice work man, i have had to do similar things with roof edge flashing on brick chimneys that are not connected to the building but yet connect at where the attic starts. had to install one piece of flashing on the chimney itself and then install another piece of flashing on the building so when the building or chimney shifted, the flashing still met but would move with it. bats love those places. very nice job figuring out how to seal that area and still have it look nice.
