Going to try to trap a population of sparrows out a medium sized polebarn. I have not been inside the barn to see what it looks like. I ordered two different types of sparrow traps from WCS as a start. Any advice on where to put the traps/cages and what to bait with.

Any and all suggestions on this matter would be appreciated.

This will not be an exclusion job. Just wants me trap the current population. He is a neighbor and is calling in a favor that I owe him. I will try to get some pictures when I set things up.

As far as how many holes? I am pretty sure it doesnt matter since the door is left open most of the time. I have zero experince with type of thing but I kinda figured this might be an impossible job to complete due to several factors.

I dont mind spending several days there since he only lives 5 minutes away. He has access to several toys (20 foot bush-hog, trackhoe, etc...) that I have borrowed in the past and I would like to retain my borrowing priviledges by doing a good job.

I think he would for like me to get things set up and show him how to do it and he will take over.

My thought on the subject would be night light and .22 birdshot. I've killed more English sparrows for fun when I was a kid in a half an hour than I've got in a lifetime since.

I've tried the bird house style sparrow traps in several locations and have yet to have a catch. They do like to perch on it though. Like Paul said, .22 with bird shot works great.

I would prebait them for atleast one day before I set the traps . Your basic minnow trap will catch sparrows really well . Growing up my Dad was a commercial bait dealer and sold whole sale mostly . We mostly used nets but traps as well . If you left the traps on there sides out of water they would fill with mice and sparrows . These traps where made by us . They where round about the size of a basket ball and 2 foot long . On one end they had a funnel with a 1' hole . Made from 1/4 hardware cloth . They where held together with Scott's bent over
