Anyone know of any studies that document beaver response to complete dam removal. More specifically, I am looking for information that suggests what factors, other than sheer stubbornness, that determine whether beaver tend to just keep replacing the dam or disappear to parts unknown for 6 or more months before returning.

I've had many beaver jobs over the years, and have noted that when a dam is completely removed and there is a colony there thay will stay!Sometimes with a single beaver you can get him to move on if it is a drastic water level change but they come back eventually. There arent too many places that I can think where it has worked.
