Nope the phone book is a time of the pass. Most people make note in the phone book and use the same one for 5 10 years. I get mine it goes right in the trash. Be happy if you break even.

For me it wasn't worth the $14 a month I was paying.

I disagree with the others.

I get roughly 50% of my business from yellow book. If that is through their website or the actual book I will never know but I check my log monthly and average 30 to 60 calls a month from yellow book. Only way you will know for sure is if you had them set up the dummy number so you could track calls.

Now the other book that is out there "Home Pages" is not worth as much. I get about 1 to 5 calls a month from that one. But that one cost me $250 on average for the year but since they go by "city" you have to be in a lot more books. Our yellow book does a three county area for one book.

Everyone keeps saying the phone book is a thing of the past but I still use it regularly and always keep the most current copy on my desk. I am only 34 so it must be a region thing.

Im paying $993 dollars a month, it is generating plenty of calls, but I'm looking for other advertising options for next year. If I could go back I would have had someone else make my website. I ask every client how they heard about me, I have had 3 this year tell me they found my website, which I pay $553 for monthly. Paying YP to make my site has been to date, the biggest waste of money.

oh wow. Never used YP to do a website. I pay roughly $155 a month for the book and to be listed on their website. The free webpage they give I have directed to my site Robb did. Again, no complaints.

30% of my work is yellow pages. Mostly older people. I pay $170 a month for two counties.

I had hoped with Robb building me a website I could wean myself away from the yellow pages but no it's still brings in a ton of calls. Mostly the older generation like myself but I've had college age clients that said they whipped out the book to find me. I have both a small print ad and a web page with them at $175.00 a month that covers several counties. Maybe someday I can drop them but not anytime soon I'm afraid.

Darn! I had hoped that everyone would have said " FORGET THE YELLOW PAGES ". I want to be the only one listed there. Hey Nate, apparently everyone is more sophisticated than us goofy Wisconsinites. Kasey, next year, give us an honest opinion on your YP investment. I think you'll be surprised.

Paul I had a ybook add last yr just a one column
In one county of my area to test it out it was only
12 $ a month so it obviously pd for its self but didn't
Get as many calls from it as I thought I would! This year
I went from the add being in a group of 40,000 to around
300,000 with a box add in both pest control and animal removal
So we will see if it was worth the Ante!

We get alot of work from our yellow page ads.Plenty that I dont want any more calls per day then we get now.We are backed up 2 weeks now with work and turning work down every day, just cant get to it.Some folks will wait for service and others as you know keep calling until they get someone to handle it in their time frame.

Im on my way to a local call now. I was hoping to recover today, but a job 5 miles away is too good to turn down. ALL forms of advertizing are effective and important in my opinion. You dont have to spend alot.

Mike you're right, all forms of advertising work, it's like a jigsaw puzzle. My final missing piece was the website. BUT as far as the yellow pages do your selves all a favor, do not list under "animal control", I finally dropped that sub listing this year and the "I found a baby bunny and found a baby bird" call stopped almost completely. Also the "neighbors dog is barking what are you going to do about it" calls stopped. My ad even said "we deal in wildlife only" didn't stop them from calling.

I have a standard website as well as a mobile website. I dropped a lot of paid advertising and now only advertise in one directory with no loss in call volume. The article below may help you decide how much print advertising you may or may not need.

I took all of my numbers out of the yellow book last year. I know people who still advertise and still seem to be having descent results from this method and people must still be having good results as obviously stated in this discussion. I always found that 99% of the time when people found us it was either by the internet advertisement or word of mouth. I have been using Robb Russell to advertise for my business for almost three years and have had nothing but fantastic results from his advertisement.

I would say that 20-25% of my calls originate from my yellow pages ad(alot of price shoppers). I didnt receive the growth in calls that i expected going from a one line to a 2" x 2" ad, so this year i trying a different yellow book, along with some creative marketing.
My #1 job generating resources are... hands down, is my affiliation with the local municipalities & word of mouth.

Just ask your mommy...
