I normally tell folks that I can't guarantee work because you're dealing wild critters that have minds of their own. The only guarantee I can give them is that the animals I remove wont be back.

Do any of you place guarantees on your ADC work?

I would say 90 percent gets warranty! Only
A few things I don't give a warranty for! Usually
That is for old falling down houses or the location
Of the situation!

There is a difference between a guarantee and warranty. Which are you talking?

Are you doing exclusion? If so it's worthless if you can't warranty it, that is if you are doing it right. All of my exclusion work carries and automatic one year and after that first year I offer a limited lifetime of structure warranty.

I even offer some limited warranty work on just trapping as well.

Does anyone ask for their money back...with a guarantee?

This thought crossed my mind today. I took my vehicle in for some repairs and it was covered by a warranty. There is a $100 deductible per each visit...and anything over is covered. That might be a neat concept for exclusion work. Anyone use this method?

I warranty my work. Not that they won't make a new hole

The only problem with telling everyone exactly what we do is the competition lurkers. We know they're there, but we tend to forget about them until one of our customers points out that they've beaten our warranty by 27 minutes, so they're going with them!

I'd say warranty your exclusion and only your exclusion; some warranty the whole structure. I feel that this requires a lot of mostly unneccessary work.

I'm fuzzy on the difference between warranty and guarantee.

Yeah, I do exclusions but I feel I can only guarantee that they won't come back through my work. That's not to say that won't find another way in. I also repair wildlife damage and have no problem guarantying that work.

But if I go out and remove the squirrels from some ladies attic and repair the facial boards that were gnawed out for entry, how can I possibly guarantee that more squirrels won't do the same thing next season?

Put it this way.... I'm also a plumber. If I run a set of water lines in your house, you need not worry about another leak for YEARS to come. If It does then I take it personal and fix it at my own expense. BUT, if I go back to patch a leak the next week where some one drove a nail through my pipe hanging a picture, then yeah, that's gonna cost you a service call!

On my plumbing work I have nothing written. Don't need to. My regular customers know that I won't tolerate defects in my work. It don't happen often but I have done warranty calls as much as 5 years after. When the man asked "What do I owe you?" I just told him, "It's my pipe. It shouldn't have been leaking!"

But, I don't guarantee drains from clogging. You can't. Just as sure as you tell some one it won't clog up they'll get the attitude, "Well, I'll show you!" and start flushing all sorts of stupid crap. Really.... You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I've gotten out of drain lines.

My posts regarding the difference between warranty and guarantee was to get people thinking. There is more to this topic than simply the length of the term.
