With being beyond impressed with the mole traps steve makes, I ordered a piar of the Gophinator traps to play with. I have used them in large mole runs but they seem like they could also be a great chippie or red squirrel trap with some mods. Anyone out there mod this trap yet for baiting/trapping chipmunks or red squirrels? If so, can you show us what youve done?
Thanks, -Nic

I plan on using them for rats. I am going to zip tie them into a piece of
abs pipe that I have the rats running in and hopefully put a dent in the pop.

What Nic said; we want to know anything and everything that works on Norways! Sometimes I feel that Norway rats are the coyote of the rodent world.

Love Steve's traps, while I catch a lot of juvenile pocket gophers our larger adults are on par with norways I used to deal with on the dairies in Oregon.
Sounds like a plan if you can funnel them through those spots, or use them in tunnels or runs, chipmunks seems reasonable too! I've got a client right now who has some small ground squirrels in the front yard and doesn't want them removed (yet) but p. gophers in the back yard. The jaw spread I think would likely take any of that sized critter.

Interested to hear as well.

If the trap does not dispatch them quickly I have had them chew through the zip tie this just happened to me last week.

Hey thanks for posting, Nick. I have been setting up jigs for a larger version of the Gophinator, and now have that in production. I will post pictures and dimensions later on today, in case anyone has a need for it for bigger gophers, or for other critters. I have caught rats in the gophinators, but only when the rats were traveling in tunnels, which isn't that often here. I suppose they might work if set in a pipe, but I haven't tried that. The bigger traps might be useful for a particular species that lives in Oregon, and for some of the larger Plains pocket gophers that live through much of the central part of the country.

Thats what I was playing with yesterday. A piece of PVC with a cap on the back. Load the back of the PVC with bait, then place the gophinator in it pushed up to the back of the tube. Would have to teather the trap to the tube or a stake incase the critter pulls out with the trap on em.

I just attached the pipe to the main holes the rats are using. Pre baited pipe and will come back and secure traps to pipe with wire or zip ties. Hope it works.

I've caught a large male weasel in one of the original sized traps. Caught around the neck, coming out of a ground squirrel hole. I bet the bigger traps will fit the bill. The bigger traps fill the nitch with those big buck gophers, thats for sure.

I'd be unstoppable, if it wasn't for law enforcement and physics.

Well the restaurant workers removed the pipes for some reason, so I just shoved a gophinator in the hole and came back with nice male.

I now have these traps zip tied all around the bar/pub on their pathways, which are wire bundles.
In reality this restaurant needs to bulldozed and or gutted then rebuilt. Makes me not want to eat out ever again.

Caption this one. BTW, Gophinators are all I put in the bucket these days.
