I got this email from a client today shortly after I removed a pup coyote. All people involved are grown men, go figure.

Quote:
David,
Good afternoon! I just wanted to shoot you a quick email about the coyotes on our property. I was under the impression that these animals were going to be captured and released elsewhere. If this is not the case, could you please let me know? Also, if you do for whatever reason have to dispose of them, could you take care of that off of the property somewhere? Several of my guys complained to me this afternoon that the coyote was killed in front of them. I appreciate all of your help with this situation- if we could just be on the same page with how this is going to take place that would be great. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks-

And my response.

Sorry if there has been a misunderstanding I thought I had explained the disposition of captured carnivores in the state of Georgia. I and anyone licensed to capture wildlife under a nuisance permit are required to euthanize all captured carnivores. This regulation is in place to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases such as rabies, distemper and parvo. I apologize if your employees were not aware of this and were offended. If it helps the coyote was not "killed" in front of them but was already dispatched when they arrived on scene. I make my best effort to conduct euthanasia practices out of the sight of bystanders and the general public but I can not prevent employees or others on the property from following me or monitoring my activities. As the traps and area being trapped lie outside of the boundary fence and not in a normal work area can I request that employees not required to be in areas of the lot adjacent to the traps for normal duties to refrain from going near the area?
As for your request that I remove the animals from the property alive for dispostion elsewhere, I can for additional fees of $150 per animal removed. This is due to the increased risk to myself and anyone I may encounter while handling wildlife capable of inflicting serious bodily harm. It is standard company policy that we do not handle such live wildlife any longer than is nessesary to effect capture and disposition. This is for the safety of everyone involved. Please advise me of your wishes.
I have also included both best management practices for the capture of eastern coyotes and the AVMA Guidelines on Euthanasia for your consideration. These two publications are the accepted industry standards.

Good response.

Except I'd have to charge an additional $100, on top of your 150, down in Pinehurst, where they charge $600 for 9 holes of golf. LOL.

I'd like to keep your response, if you don't mind, for future reference.

Another day and another fine example of John Q. Public!

Great story David thanks for sharing, will share a coyote inspection we did today later, lots of the same
type of thoughts and a homeowner who said "I thought the poison i use on skunks would kill the coyote for me, will it?"

Stay tuned! Nice response too, kudos!

Canine distemper and parvo can be transmitted from coyote to human? Are you sure of that?

There is a human parvo but its not a cross-species disease.

Very good!

I fear I may not have been as diplomatic once when pricing a muskrat job.

Inside a gated community, there were 52 private ponds all of which had bank erosion and deterioration from muskrats burrowing into them. Some were absolutely dangerous for a riding mower as they tended to fall in and turn over. Walking around the bank was hazardous as your next step could break a leg in a hidden burrow.

But I notice that there were "No Fishing" signs everywhere. I didn't understand that as largemouth bass were literally rolling over one another in these small overcrowded ponds. I had to ask the lady who was showing me around "Why?"

Her answer dumbfounded me. It seems that the residents there don't allow fishing because they don't want to see the fish injured, maimed and killed...Yeah...Don't want to see the fish hurt.

Then I spoke a bit gruff when I asked her, "Do you realize what you're asking me to do? What are they gonna say when they start seeing me dragging a hundred fury little broken bodies out of my steel traps?"

She could only shrug her shoulders and shake her head.

Oh my goodness! They had to view a dead coyote?!?!?! I'll bet you scarred those guys for life. Can you imagine having to view such a thing?!?!?! Probably had a hard time getting to sleep that night. What happened to "Men" in this country? Are they all gone? Or just hang out here?

The regulations are put in place to help spread of the diseases between other animals!

See, now here's where David and I disagree. I would have dragged that pup to my truck ( out of view ) and then strangled it with my bare hands. I HATE coyotes!

Even more than a well worded mail, thanks for the kind words, is results. Three days in I have four yotes on the ground. That goes a long way to ease hurt feelings.

Oh ya now he's just having flat out fun . Having a coyote job go click within in the first 24 hours will put a smile on any ADC trapper but 4 in 3 nights that kinda fun is at a whole different level there . When I went to Georgia I could not beleave how many Rabbits And grey squirrels I seen . I was thinking I would need me a beagle dog if I lived here . Seen a few deer around and these mountain top Canada geese strange goose there landing and walking up the mountain like they owened it . I would like to try some of that striped bass fishing there someday . Must be a few Bobcats around with all them rabbits
