Removing some skunks for a church/school. Was dispatching on site, now the school does not want them killed. Submitted the MD regs requiring skunks be released on site (defeats the purpose) or killed.

They now want me to remove them for dispatch.

Are you rotating traps out, or charging extra for this? Making an extra trip to set the same traps is a waste of time and money. Need advice.

Joemac,

Are the skunks spraying kids, digging under buildings or just grubbing the grounds?

I only ask because if they are under the buildings and you can exclude without other worries I'd go that way.

What is their complaint?

Justin

When trapping skunks I always have extra traps on the truck so I can rotate them.

They are living under some modular trailers. There are three with visible entrances. The problem, which I have talked to the head of maintenance about is all the garbage under the bleachers. The skunks live under the trailers, travel under a very low boardwalk without human access and directly under the bleachers. It is a direct shot for them. I have removed 4 so far, and there is at least one more due to clear digging and a fired trap. One of the maintenance guys saw one a week or two ago and they decided they had a skunk problem which they clearly do and are being proactive before someone gets sprayed or bitten.

I'm doubtful blocking their entrance will work. They will keep coming back to the garbage.

Sounds like you have a EZ choke point.I would use Kirk Dekalb's Tube Traps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPWws26E6G4 or even one of Kirk Dekalb's Double Catch and get them coming and going.

You can also set two single cages in both directions.

I like AES Traps 8 x 8 Opossum/Skunk traps.

I have like FREE 5 podcasts that were done over the last few years related to skunks & their removal @

For me it is much easier to rotate the traps and transport off site for euthanasia. Transport to an out of the way area just in case of an "accidental discharge", I would never dispatch on a clients property for that reason.

True it is dispatch on site. If you take to your warden, you can do the deed offsite.
