My cousin asked if I can get some opinions on anything he can put in his attic to deter the coons from coming in. He has already sealed the entrances with sheet metal and flashing, but wants to know what he can disperse throughout the attic that might keep the coon from wanting to come in. He asked if Fox urine would be a good Idea, I told him that it would stink the house up and I have caught coons in dirtholes that I used Fox urine on the backing so I advised him it would not be a good choice. any input will help. Sounds like he "sprayed" with exclusion materials, if he did it right, no need to go making the house smell funky or adding things
that might cause human health issues. None I've ever seen given that would make a raccoon pack it up that won't do the same or
worse to the occupants of the house.

Good exclusion is solid and should make the future incursion a non-issue (again if done properly on a solid home).

Let's not forget the compound that made me famous in some circles ( and infamous in many others ) good old CHC13 or Trichloromethane. ( Ha Ha, back to Google )

The good thing about having the chlorine atom in the organic compound is that it will not be flammable. The bad part is the toxcicity and persistence in the environment (think liability).

See, that's why tricloromethane is better. Not flamable, no toxicity, and evaporates faster than a paycheck.

Dihydrogen monoxide, when used in sufficient quantities could be a very effective deterrent, especially in cold climates.

Dave, now we are probably talking about different substances because that's how I got in trouble in the first place. Al won't use it ( although it's probably manufactured in Michigan ) because his doctor told him about health problems; notably kidney failure. The stuff that all the old doctors talk about ( including mine ) is highly flammable. The stuff that's used today is a cleaning agent and you couldn't ignite it with a torch. I've had gallons of it in my basement for twenty years and except for my failing mentality, I'm doing fine.

Instead of what to add to the attic think of what to take out. If the attic was home ot Raccoons in the past try to remove the odors as much as practical., feces piles as a minimum
