Unless I have flawed information, how come that I am the first to report the first Florida python roundup? My informed source ( Krier ) tells me that Florida Fish & Game, along with the Florida Conservation group and the University of Florida are giving prizes for the most pythons caught in the first ever python roundup. I expect a play by play report from you Floridians and interviews with the winners from Russell.

Because you are awesome and nobody outside of Florida cares.

The contest won't amount to much success if you really know much about these snakes and temperatures . Here is the average temperature for Everglades State Park

http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USFL0138

Its not even snake season Jan-Feb anywhere in Florida.

Kind of reminds me of a contest to see who sells the most ice cream to ice fisherman out on the frozen lakes up North. They are using the coldest month of the year to hunt down snakes in 50F -70F weather when looking for something that thrives when its 80+. Most of the snakes will be in a burrows and will have to be dug out and they should be rather sluggish!

If they even waited one month they would find more and more of them hunting prey and easier to find. They did select the safest time of the year considering Reptiles are not active in clouder periods ie: Gators, Lizards and Snakes.

I live in the upper part of the state and we rarely get the big snakes like they do down south. Most of my snake calls occur in Jun, July, Aug and Sep http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/32038

The "largest snake" job I ran into was a 17 Ft. reticulated Python that I turned over to the state for safety reasons - not enough help. The pics and the documentation will give you an idea of the enormity of the snakes possible here in Florida North or South.

Tell PJ and the Misses not to worry Paul, I am sending my top carpenter your way first thing in the morning. He has the supplies to widen your front door so your now over sized head can fit through safely. I have authorized the use of a U Haul truck to transport you to the site of your latest ladder fall. This should help to reduce the swelling and allow you to return to normal life. No need to thank me just send him home with a couple cases of Old Style.

it is not a stupid question if you do not know the answer

I was interviewed for the 2013 python challenge a few weeks back. It's not something I'd dedicate a month to for $1500 bucks. $1000 to the longest catch. I went down there last February and found a 10 ft Red Tailed Boa. Seems like there are more than just pythons at this point. You're just driving the back roads after midnight with a spotlight and grab them as they try to cross the road. They come out to warm up on the roads that have been baking in the sun all day.

Seems like the gators are on the banks sunning themselves in the cooler months. That's the only time I see gators on gator alley. You can count hundreds from one side of the alley to the other.

I ended up with 2 Ball Pythons this summer and a 6 ft Boa last month from residential properties. 7 iguanas, 3 nile monitors and more recently a tarantula.

Did you consider next year? Pumpkins are known to grow exponetially. Recommend you construct an airplane hanger.

Thanks WTWC, from all of us in the Midwest that are serpently challenged.

I keep noticing a consistency; If you make a post like this (asking for trouble) three people who will be more than happy to give it to you are....Phil, Travis, and warrior.
