Hi All,

I just got 6 new adjustable wooden coyote stretchers and 1 adjustable bobcat stretcher. I have never used them before and cannot seem to find any directions. I know you just adjust the width, but have never seen anyone stretch a fur on one. I have never used anything except wire in the past. Any advice from you folks who use them?

Thanks,
Brian

i've only used solids. if you go too wide the fur doesn't look as full as it should. i picked that up from Don Wolf, fur buyer. all coyotes aren't the same size, but they will shrink to the size of the board. go by the widths listed by nafa or the fur harvesters. wider isn't better, fuller fur gets a better price. imoa

Whoa, slow down there Tex.

I can't believe I just said that? \:\)

So when you stretch for length, are you pinning the hips and or tail in place, then sliding the spreaders out?

Tuck and fold?

I know when I stretch a beaver on plywood, or even a raccoon on a solid board, I want a little bit of slack in it width-wise when I first board it up.

Tex,

Thanks, I'll have to re-read it a few times when I am a little less tired. I'm sure I'll have some questions.
It sounds very similar to the way I was taught to put up 'coons on a solid board.

I like the addition of pulling the nose back up over the tip of the board, to really get some length out of it.

One year every time I wiped off my coon hides I rubbed the cloth on my boots, thinking that would make them more waterproof. One night the heat was up too high and my wife kept telling me my shirt was stinking up the bedroom and I kept telling her my shirt didn't stink. Then I realized it had to be my boots. Yeppers, they did stink.
